Job Description

GravitHy in a nutshell


The Iron and steel industry is a fundamental cornerstone of the European Economy. It provides globally around 300 000 directs and 1.6 million indirect jobs and an estimated cumulated added value of eighty-two billion Euros annually in Europe. Nevertheless, the iron and steel industry rely on the utilization of fossil fuel and results in approximately 190 million tons of CO2 emitted annually; 5% of EU overall CO2 emissions.


GravitHy is a newly created French company with global ambition to decarbonize the steel industry by producing at scale green and low carbon Direct Reduced Iron out of renewable and low-carbon hydrogen. GravitHy aims to build, own and operate a first green iron plant in the south of France to be replicated in Europe and beyond.


Role and Background


  • The Water Treatment Engineer is a key member in our business and projects; responsible for overseeing, controlling, validating, and sharing knowledge on several Water Treatment and Effluent Management aspects related to all packages included in our innovative project to decarbonize iron production using green hydrogen.
  • The Water Treatment Engineer is expected to become a technical and strategy authority for all Basic and Detail Engineering during the Project Execution stages mainly related to water treatment for the Direct Reduction Plant, Hydrogen Production Plant, and Effluent Management for the whole plant; along with guiding other teammates and contributing with the rest of the team to the Project Execution.
  • The Water Treatment Engineer is expected to work closely with the project team and deliver technically on Water Treatment Plant and Effluent Management.
  • The Water Treatment Engineer is expected to participate in Procurement, Construction, Commissioning and Start Up activities as well.


Responsabilities


Engineering:

  • To lead the design and engineering of a comprehensive water treatment package for the DRI plant, including water supply for the DRI process, Electrolysis process, and other ancillary units, as well as sea water usage for cooling.
  • To develop a long-term vision and plant intelligence roadmap, outlining key milestones, investment priorities, and anticipated outcomes. This vision should be aligned with the company's overall strategy and vision for the future.
  • To generate the pertinent Engineering Design Basis for the designated Project based on the Company’s goals and sustainability objectives.
  • To review Equipment datasheets generated by third parties (EPCM and/or OEMs) highlighting the Safety standard needs and the Process requirements.
  • To identify potential improvements in the Equipment specifications coming from third parties’ scopes (EPCM and/or OEMs).
  • To develop a Water Treatment Philosophy for the future installations in line with the Safety First, Local Regulations and Sustainable objectives.
  • To provide technical insight for Permitting & Modelling activities performed for the Project at hand, whenever there is a request from Project Management.
  • Permitting activities can be Construction, Environmental Impact Assessment, Risk Identification & Zoning and Energy Saving to mention a few.
  • The Engineer is expected to provide technical expertise in these areas to the other teammates.
  • To review, monitor, check and approve Engineering products generated by third parties during the pertinent Project Stage and align these engineering products with the Company’s & Project’s technical objectives and standards.
  • To actively cooperate with the Project team whenever required to participate, from technical issues with potential OEM suppliers to participating in Engineering studies such as HAZID/HAZOP.
  • To support in determining the costs associated with the supply, assembly, and commissioning of sensitive equipment with their respective installations.

Project:

  • To support Project Management in Procurement activities with potential OEM suppliers whenever there is a technical request under the Engineer Know How & Expertise.
  • To cooperate with Project Management and with Third Parties in visiting potential OEM supplier’s installations and providing technical feedback for all matters that may fall under the Engineer Know How & Expertise:
  • Given the Project nature, the Engineer is expected to travel to the site often.
  • In addition, if there is ever the need to visit OEM suppliers abroad, and there is a sensitive technical issue, the Engineer is expected to join with the Project Manager designated teammates to address the issue.
  • To participate and supervise, along with Project Management, in the Construction, Commissioning and Start Up Project stages for the Water Treatment facilities, including components & equipment that may require assistance from the Engineer.

Documentation:

  • To produce documentation of studies and analyses conducted, designs, presentations for reference and training purposes.
  • To carry out the reporting of its activity according to the defined frequencies and deliverables with the Project at hand and its direct supervisor.
  • To follow up the Quality Management System for all documentation internally generated.
  • To capitalize on Feedback (e.g. writing of REX sheets)


SPECIFIC PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE TO HOLD THE JOB

Job-specific technical skills

Industrial experience in O&G, Fertilizer/Ammonia, and Ironmaking (DRI or Blast Furnace) related to Water Treatment areas (makeup water treatment, effluent treatment, sea water treatment, etc).

Ability to read, understand, explain & interpret Engineering products related to his/her area of Expertise.

Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative data from Process sources and delivery diagnostics (troubleshooting)

Ability to work within a Project team

Ability to write clear, precise deliverables at the expected level of analysis/synthesis/quality: specifications, technical specifications, etc.

Fluent in written and spoken English

Other important job-related skills; Personal Skills and Abilities

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Ability to be proactive (working methods, operating methods, etc.)
