Title: Field Service Technician

The Field Service Technician will engage in start-up and commissioning, service, and field support for Armstrong products, focusing on pumps, boosters, and control panels. This home-office-based position is located in France, close to the German border.

Key Accountabilities

Field Service Activities

  • Hands-On Field Service:
  • Start-up and commissioning of Armstrong equipment with Variable Frequency Drives/Control Panels.
  • Troubleshooting and repairing Armstrong equipment.
  • Preparing parts lists and labour requirements for repairs.
  • Filling out daily service, start-up, and commissioning reports through the Armstrong online portal.
  • On-Site Operator Training: Providing training post-customer acceptance of equipment.
  • Field Services Reporting: Escalating issues for further troubleshooting to the After-Sales service team and implementing recommended solutions.
  • Travel: Up to 60% travel within Central Europe.

Customer Service Activities

  • Customer Interactions: Handling regional customer complaints/issues/start-up requests, and scheduling services and start-up visits.
  • Warranty Support: Providing timely warranty service support.
  • Quality Feedback: Coordinating with the factory quality team regarding field failures.
  • Equipment Connectivity: Connecting site equipment to the Internet or customer networks.
  • Spares Management: Managing spare parts quotations.

Training

  • Team Training: Training service and installation teams at contracting firms.
  • Continuous Learning: Participating in training programs conducted at the factory and online.
  • Installation Training: Training installation personnel at mechanical contractor’s offices.
  • Report Compilation: Compiling and reviewing site commissioning, start-up, and warranty field reports.
  • Cloud Connectivity: Connecting customer site pumps to the Internet or customer networks.

Technical Support

  • Collaboration: Working with engineering, technical support, project management, sales, and marketing on product development and project initiatives.
  • Product Deficiencies: Identifying and reporting product deficiencies discovered through service activities.
  • Process Improvement: Contributing to process improvements, product design enhancements, and service capabilities.

Role Requirements

  • Education: College degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Technologist or Applied Engineering, or related education with comparable field/work experience.

Experience:

  • Hands-on experience with Drives, control panels, BAS systems, automation, and mechanical equipment pumps, particularly in the HVAC industry.
  • Involvement in the commercial construction marketplace is desirable.
  • General knowledge of HVAC heating and cooling systems, including hydronics.
  • Familiarity with Variable Frequency Drives, automation, internet and communication protocols, Building Automation Controls, Pump Curves, and thermo-hydraulic technical knowledge.

Skills:

  • Excellent computer and software skills (MS Office suite).
  • Creative problem-solving and conflict management abilities.
  • Ability to simplify complex problems, conduct root cause analysis, and provide well-thought-out recommendations.
  • Self-directed with strong results focus, and the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively.
  • Clear and concise communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Physical Ability: Capable of lifting heavy equipment unaided (training provided).
  • Languages: Proficiency in French and English; basic German is appreciated.
  • Location: Home office based in north-eastern France near the German border.

This role involves significant travel and hands-on technical work, requiring a proactive, customer-focused individual with a strong technical background and excellent problem-solving skills.
