Position Summary Effective September 7th, 2021 all applicants must provide proof of full vaccination against Covid-19 (in the form of watermark receipts from the provincial portal) or provide written proof of a medical or religious reason for not being fully vaccinated as per the provincial direction as set out by the CMOH Directive 6. Position Summary: This unique position will provide the Nurse with a role in both the Medical Cardiology Unit as well as the Critical Care Unit. Medical Cardiology is an Internist-lead unit that supports up to 24 Telemetry monitors in addition to other acute care patients. The Critical Care Unit (CCU) is an intensivist-lead closed model with a dedicated Respiratory Therapy Team. Our CCU nurses actively support our RN-lead Critical Care Response Team throughout the hospital and have opportunities for involvement in research projects and continuing education. Position Requirements: The Brant Community Healthcare System is looking for a dynamic nurse that thrives in a fast paced environment. Reporting to the Manager of Medical Cardiology and Critical Care the RN will be responsible for providing evidence-based, comprehensive, safe, effective and ethical nursing care to all patients in the Cardiology and Critical Care Programs. Mandatory Qualifications Graduate of an accredited college or university nursing program Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario Current nursing experience in an acute care environment. Cardiology or Critical/Intensive Care Unit experience preferred. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification Successful completion of a Basic Arrhythmia Interpretation Course Mandatory Competencies Demonstrated ability to work within a Total Patient Care Delivery system in which regulated health care professionals practice to their full scope adhering to the practice standards as defined by the College of Nurses of Ontario Evidence of critical thinking skills, creative problem solver with a solution focus and patient centred approach Demonstrated ability to communicate and use effective interpersonal skills with colleagues and other members of the BCHS and external partners Ability to multi task and set priorities in a high intensity and rapidly changing environment Demonstrated competence in patient assessment and care planning including but not limited to: Completion of comprehensive (systems based) patient assessments, identification and prioritization of patient needs, collaborative care planning with clients and families, implementation of nursing interventions, evaluation and documentation. Ensuring a discharge plan is part of the individualized plan of care Engaging patient and family in health teaching to achieved desired patient outcomes Demonstrated ability to interpret cardiac arrhythmias, describe their hemodynamic consequences and usual treatment approaches. Demonstrated ability to recognize the signs and symptoms of cardiopulmonary emergencies and initiation of advanced interventions to stabilize a patient. Demonstrated competencies in phlebotomy, IV initiation as well as care for central lines IV Infusion pumps, oxygen delivery systems, telemetry packs, glucometers, specialty beds and overlay mattresses, closed chest tube drainage systems, and wound management systems, Physically capable of performing the full scope of responsibilities Preferred Competencies Reliable individual with excellent attendance record and able to work all shifts Primary Responsibilities Also Include: Safety (patient, worker & workplace) is a BCHS Corporate Priority.
