Job Description

We are working with a Local Authority in the Oxfordshire region looking for a permanent SEN Education Specialist Solicitor from upwards 1+ PQE to join their department.

The role offers a salary of £43,421 – £54,702 (DOE) and an excellent benefits package. This is a full – time position with the council operating on a flexible working environment.


About the position:

SEN Education Lawyers are expected to undertake the following duties:

  • Provide legal advice in relation to SEN Education law adhering to the Legal Services Core Competencies Framework
  • To manage and provide advice on your own caseload of varied complex matters with minimal supervision
  • To act as a senior and specialist legal advisor and support a significant portfolio of work which directly delivers on the Council’s key priorities and areas of risk
  • To Undertake complex proceedings on behalf of the council with minimal supervision including complex advocacy work
  • To deputise for the Senior Lawyers and support junior legal colleagues in their work if required
  • Work closely with Elected Members and Directorate and Corporate teams as required to provide strategic support


About you:

The successful SEN Education Lawyer will be an admitted Solicitor, Barrister or CILEX of England and Wales with a current practising certificate. Good knowledge of both mainstream and SEN education law and practices are essential. You will be ambitious, a team player, driven by delivering a high-quality service, and have a positive attitude towards building relationships with social workers and your wider team. It is important that anyone joining the council is committed to this area of law and has a genuine enthusiasm for the work. The ability to work under pressure is imperative, be self-motivated, and able to work to deadlines.

Previous SEN education local authority experience is desirable. You will also need to be comfortable undertaking some advocacy.
