About the role:

Playing a crucial role in the development of Metro Supply Chain in the UK, the Solution Design Manager will lead the development of innovative warehouse design solutions to drive new business and develop our existing operations. Scope of work includes facility planning, cost modelling, complex handling/fulfilment solutions and management of external suppliers from concept to operational delivery.


This is a customer facing role and you will be heavily involved in new business pursuits. Strong analytical, organisational and time management skills are required, and you will be expected to own the development of our solutions, working alongside the Business Development, Operations, Systems and Finance teams during the sales and delivery phases.



Tasks Include:

  • Responsible for the development and engineering of new business proposals and the coordination of resources to provide timely solutions which are innovative and cost effective. Work with other sectors and teams to lead design work and play an active role in customer facing engagements
  • Focused on warehousing and fulfilment however transport knowledge would be an advantage
  • Analyse data files and provide insight in the form of graphs and tables
  • Communicates with customers and quickly comprehend multi-variable problems
  • Ability to write reports and articulate complex conceptual ideas
  • Develop presentations to support solutions and sell ideas to clients
  • Analyse existing warehousing, distribution and assembly methodologies and recommend modifications necessary to improve and streamline these processes
  • Analyse capacity planning, facility flow patterns, and operational data to determine efficient utilisation of labour and equipment
  • Provide project management during the implementation of projects and initiatives
  • Keep abreast of industry developments and trends by attending training courses, seminars, exhibitions and trade shows as needed. Maintain up to date technical knowledge in the markets we serve


Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • Evidence of designing large scale business winning contract logistics solutions for 3PL customers in the UK
  • Requires a minimum of five years’ experience in a warehouse Solutions design or operations environment
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to gain buy in across a matrix organisation
  • Solid understanding of Supply Chain Management concepts through work experience and technical solutions Knowledge in warehouse solution design
  • Ability to manage, scope and analyse all aspects of a large supply chain project across a range of industry sectors including FMCG, automotive, ecommerce, fashion and industrials
  • Creative and innovative – demonstrating a detailed knowledge of technology and automated solutions, including where these can be best applied and where they will demonstrate ROI
  • Excellent data analysis and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a professional team environment to collaborate and listen to new ideas
  • Logical reasoning of complex problems and understanding of detailed assumptions.
  • An understanding of the commercial structure of logistics contracts including open and closed book agreements and building of pricing and operational cost models
  • Demonstrate a consultative approach for our customers, with our expertise and understanding of their business clearly displayed
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industrial engineering practices applicable to warehousing, distribution and light assembly. Requires strong IT skills including, Microsoft applications, AutoCAD, Visio and simulation
  • Consistently demonstrates a high level of performance through the creation of creative warehousing and logistics solutions, backed by a track record of contributing to winning bids
  • A demonstrable track record of identifying areas where we can provide competitive advantage for our customers and an edge in winning business
