Cloud Ops Manager

Role Overview:

As CloudOps Manager, you will lead a team of CloudOps engineers responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the cloud infrastructure that supports our company's applications and services. Your primary role will be to ensure that our cloud environments are secure, scalable, and cost-effective while driving the strategic direction for cloud technologies. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including development, data, and business stakeholders to ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of cloud-based solutions.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Team Leadership:

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of CloudOps engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Provide technical guidance and support to the team, ensuring the effective implementation of cloud solutions.
• Conduct performance reviews, set goals, and identify professional development opportunities for team members.

Cloud Strategy & Architecture:

• Develop and execute the cloud strategy in alignment with business objectives and IT strategy.
• Design and implement scalable, secure, and cost-efficient cloud architectures.
• Evaluate and select cloud technologies, tools, and platforms that meet the company's needs.
• Oversee the migration of legacy systems to cloud environments and manage the optimization of existing cloud infrastructure.

Project Management:

• Manage cloud engineering projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
• Coordinate with other departments and stakeholders to define project requirements, deliverables, and timelines.
• Track project progress and adjust plans as needed to meet objectives.

Security & Compliance:

• Ensure cloud environments comply with security best practices and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with the security team to implement and maintain robust cloud security measures.
• Monitor cloud environments for vulnerabilities and ensure timely patching and updates.

Operational Excellence:

• Implement and manage cloud operations, including monitoring, logging, and alerting systems.
• Optimize cloud resource usage to reduce costs and improve performance.
• Ensure high availability and disaster recovery plans are in place and tested regularly.

Collaboration & Communication:

• Collaborate with development, operations, and security teams to streamline the deployment of cloud-based applications.
• Communicate cloud strategies, progress, and challenges to executive leadership and other stakeholders.
• Advocate for cloud best practices and educate the organization on cloud capabilities and benefits.

Continuous Improvement:

• Stay up to date with the latest trends and best practices in cloud computing.
• Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of cloud infrastructure and processes and implement improvements as necessary.

Skills/Experience/Knowledge Needed:

• 5+ years+ experience in Cloud engineering & minimum of 2 years in a leadership or managerial role.
• Beneficial to have experience in an eCommerce business.
• Retail experience would be highly desirable
• Experience working directly with internal stakeholders would be advantageous.

Technical Skills:

• Proven experience with AWS, particularly with both serverless and containterised workloads including Lambda, ECS, SQS, Dynamo and S3.
• Strong background in infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar.
• Deep understanding of container technologies, including Docker.
• Comfortable writing code in Python, Go, TypeScript and JavaScript or other languages.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines including TeamCity and Bitbucket Pipelines.
• Previous experience with monitoring and alerting platforms such as New Relic, Data Dog, Splunk, Grafana, etc.
