My client, a large Commercial Vehicle / HGV repairer are looking for an experienced Fleet Manager / Fleet Service Manager / VMU Service Manager / Service Manager / Workshop Manager / Fleet VMU Manager / HGV Fleet Manager / HGV Workshop Manager / HGV Service Manager to join their site in Bristol.
The role of the Fleet Manager / Fleet Service Manager / VMU Service Manager / Service Manager / Workshop Manager / Fleet VMU Manager / HGV Fleet Manager / HGV Workshop Manager / HGV Service Manager:
They are looking for an experienced and dedicated Fleet VMU Manager, who leads by example and inspires the team around them.They are looking for a great team member who will create a good working atmosphere, enthuse and motivate their team.
  • You ideally possess industry qualifications achieved to a minimum of Level 3 Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or mechanical engineering.
  • You have previous working experience in a workshop environment
  • You have previous working experience in a managerial role
  • To plan and control your workforce resource availability to meet your customers fleet demands.
  • To manage and control labour costs, including any use of third parties.
  • To comply with safety audits and manage working code of practice for contractors.
  • Ensuring planning for facilities, bays, machines, tools, diagnosis installations, etc. are carried out correctly, optimal design of workplaces and processes.
  • Preparing planning and calculations for investments in workshops, facilities and HR, together with the company management.
  • Regularly review prices for workshop services and after prior agreement with Company management, adapt them to suit the market.
  • Measure and report on daily workshop performance around retail sales, warranty and internal contract.
  • WIP management and cash control.
  • Employing new staff and carrying out effective induction.
  • Managing, coaching and motivating employees, ensuring retention of high-quality team members.
  • Defining target agreements with employees and reviewing the level of target achievement.

Duties of the Fleet Manager / Fleet Service Manager / VMU Service Manager / Service Manager / Workshop Manager / Fleet VMU Manager / HGV Fleet Manager / HGV Workshop Manager / HGV Service Manager: Carry out all aspects of maintenance, including servicing, inspection, repair, MOT preparation and breakdowns. Maintain a high level of understanding of Legal Compliance and standards of Roadworthiness, demonstrating an awareness of the DVSA Earned Recognition Scheme. Maintain the company's high levels in health & safety, demonstrating an awareness of ISO 180001H&S and ISO 140001 Environmental. Operate safe systems of work and pride in the fleet, ensuring SOPs and RAs are up to date for every task performed. Manage operation of workshop inclusive of staff and vehicle management. Carry out and arrange routine inspections and maintenance of all vehicles to DVSA standards. i.e. vehicles, workshop, etc. Monitor and report on DVSA/DVA pass rates. Manage the DVSA/DVA booking system. Ensure all vehicles worked upon are handled carefully and that all precautions are taken in line with health & safety requirements. Work within the confines of a tight contract/budget and maximize external labour and parts sales. Closely monitor labour and parts sales to ensure monthly targets are met. Organising vehicle / Trailer breakdowns.
Competencies required for the Fleet Manager / Fleet Service Manager / VMU Service Manager / Service Manager / Workshop Manager / Fleet VMU Manager / HGV Fleet Manager / HGV Workshop Manager / HGV Service Manager:
  • Industry qualifications achieved to a minimum of Level 3 Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or mechanical engineering (all modules completed).
  • Strong leadership.

  • Identify business challenges and quickly adapt to perform.
  • Industry knowledge.
  • Understand the importance of following company and customer process
  • Ideally have must have experience within a commercial vehicle setting.
  • Kerridge experience is a must.
  • VOR Experience within commercial vehicles
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in HGV and trailer maintenance
  • Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience in a workshop environment
  • Be flexible and have the ability to work unsupervised with a high level of self-motivation.
  • NVQ Level 3 or IRTE qualified Commercial Vehicle Technician, but equivalent qualifications considered. Experience may also be considered as an alternative to academic qualifications.
  • Clean HGV / LGV licence preferred, but not essential.
