Job Overview:

A Cable Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing cable systems and related equipment in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. The role involves troubleshooting issues, performing diagnostics, and ensuring the highest level of service to customers. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of cable systems, telecommunications, and internet services, as well as excellent customer service and technical skills.

Key Responsibilities:

• Cable Installation:
• Install, configure, and test cable TV, internet, and phone services, ensuring all cables are properly routed and connected to customer devices.
• Maintenance and Repair:
• Diagnose and troubleshoot cable system issues, including signal loss, connectivity problems, or equipment malfunctions. Perform repairs on cables, equipment, or connections as needed.
• Testing and Diagnostics:
• Utilize testing equipment to check for signal strength, noise, and other transmission problems. Perform diagnostics to identify potential issues with the network or customer devices.
• Safety and Compliance:
• Follow safety protocols and industry regulations while working with cabling infrastructure, including climbing ladders, handling electrical equipment, and working at heights. Ensure all work complies with company and industry standards.
• Customer Service:
• Communicate effectively with customers, explaining services, installation procedures, and addressing concerns or questions. Provide excellent customer service while on-site, ensuring the customer understands the work being done.
• Documentation:
• Maintain accurate records of installations, maintenance tasks, and repairs. Report any major issues or work completed to supervisors.
• Tools and Equipment Management:
• Maintain and care for tools, equipment, and company vehicles. Ensure all tools are calibrated and in working condition.
• Continuous Learning:
• Stay up to date with new technologies, products, and industry trends in cable and telecommunications systems.

Key Qualifications:

• Education:
• High school diploma or GED.
• Technical certification in telecommunications, electronics, or a related field (preferred).
• Experience:
• Prior experience as a cable technician, installer, or in a related field.
• Experience with cable TV, internet, and phone systems installation and repair.
• Skills:
• Strong understanding of cable systems, networking, and signal troubleshooting.
• Ability to use hand tools and diagnostic equipment effectively.
• Knowledge of industry safety practices and electrical codes.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Physical ability to lift equipment, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
• Technical Proficiency:
• Familiarity with various cable systems, modems, routers, and amplifiers.
• Ability to work with copper, fiber-optic, and coaxial cables.
• Certifications (Preferred but not required):
• Low Voltage Electrician Certification.
• BICSI Installer Certification.
• OSHA Safety Certification.
