Our client is an international group with a significant presence in the UK, known for being a key service provider to multiple customers. They manage the receiving, storing, and distributing of fresh produce according to marketing requirements, while also offering advanced re-packing services. With state-of-the-art facilities for prepared fresh produce, they provide solutions ranging from conventional storage to fruit snacking and ‘food to go’ options for convenience shoppers.
Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Procurement Manager to oversee and expand their grape and citrus categories, while managing major suppliers from key regions such as India, Egypt, and Greece.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage and coordinate all activities related to the procurement of fruit, from intent to purchase through to delivery.
* Ensure cost-effective distribution of commodities, including overseeing freight logistics from the source as required.
* Manage stock, purchasing, and profitability across product categories, including melons, pineapples, and apples for prepared fruit lines.
* Collaborate with the packhouse to ensure proper product utilisation and stock management.
* Handle quality control, resolve product rejections, and manage supplier disputes.
* Negotiate optimal pricing while balancing quality and schedule demands.
* Champion company initiatives and drive continuous improvement to exceed customer expectations.
* Support the development of a positive internal culture, fostering behavioural change through coaching and leadership.
* Ensure cross-functional collaboration with teams across People, Finance, Health & Safety, and internal departments.
* Attract, retain, and develop talent within the team while ensuring robust succession plans.
What We’re Looking For:
* Extensive experience in global procurement, ideally within one of the company’s core product categories.
* Proven track record at a senior level, demonstrating a depth of knowledge and leadership.
* Experience working in collaborative environments to ensure smooth procurement planning, management information, budgeting, and team coordination.
* Knowledge of the retail environment in Western Europe, with a strategic approach to leveraging growth opportunities in Eastern European markets.
