Job Description

Based in our Hemel Hempstead Distribution Centre and reporting to the General Manager, you will own and be responsible for the performance of your colleague drivers and driver’s mates, and for the internal and external service, safety and cost KPI’s of your department. You will ensure the effective day to day running of the Transport Department providing your team with clear leadership, communication, guidance and support to ensure the right process and procedures are followed, legal compliance is adhered to and performance metrics are achieved.


Duties:

  • Role-model our values and TPRG culture across all aspects of the role, promoting an engaging and positive environment ensuring that your team enjoy coming to work.
  • Develop and maintain a high performing team, through actively coaching, developing and supporting your team of drivers and mates, addressing any skills gaps
  • Complete regular, effective and constructive individual performance meetings, as well as managing difficult situations and challenging conversations with team operatives.
  • Ensure all company procedures and standards are consistently and fairly applied.
  • Managing, evaluating and reporting via telematics on KPIs for Fuel usage, driver behaviours with a focus on reducing costs.
  • Managing drivers hours, working time and Operator Licencing to conform with legal requirements and ensure your team are following standard operating procedures.
  • Produce regular reports and statistics as and when required.
  • Lead by example for Health & Safety, creating a positive behavioural safe environment, ensuring that colleagues comply with health, safety and environmental regulations and work safely to protect themselves and others as they carry out their role.
  • Manage ER issues in a timely manner, liaising with your Manager and HR to ensure effective and consistent outcomes.
  • Managing delivery schedules and communicate effectively with stores and the drivers, liaising with the warehouse operations team as appropriate.
  • Create strong working relationships with stakeholders, working collaboratively with other areas within the DC across all brands.

About You

  • Good It skills, in particular using spreadsheets (Google Sheets and Excel)
  • Excellent planning skills and ability to offer creative solutions
  • Can work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • A good knowledge of Telematics and associated reporting
  • A valid UK driving licence with no serious endorsements
  • Good knowledge of the UK road network
  • Good attention to detail
  • A team player with a positive attitude towards work and colleagues
  • Previous transport experience essential
  • Class 1 and Class 2 Licence would be desirable, but not essential.
  • CPC in Transport Management is a requirement of the role
