Job Title: Human Resources Manager

Hours: Part-Time (4 days a week, flexibility available) The business’ core hours are 9am – 6pm but there is flexibility for this role.

Salary: Circa £60k pro rata + 25 days holiday, pension, private health optional, plus additional perks.

Location: South London


A unique opportunity has arisen for an experienced HR Manager to join this highly successful international Creative Packaging & Brand Building Agency based in South London. This is a stand-alone role which will involve sole responsibility for the entire HR function including the recruitment of staff both in Germany and the UK. Policies and procedures must be compliant with UK legislation and aligned with good HR practice. This role will cover the full remit of an HR function, including recruitment, learning and development, employee relations and rewards. This is an ideal role for an experienced HR Manager looking for a Part Time position and the potential to move into a Director level role as the business grows.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsibility for managing all day-to-day operational HR issues including coaching and supporting managers on employee relations and talent management.
  • Ensuring that the Company’s employee handbook, policies and procedures are legally compliant and combine best practice with best fit for the organisation. Provide coaching and interpretation of policies to managers to ensure understanding and implementation.
  • Manage all recruitment for the Company including job role design and creating recruitment channels both in Germany, the USA and the UK. Liaison with recruitment agencies, interviewing and any testing required. Ensure recruitment of employees for the Company are of suitable caliber within reasonable cost base. Responsible for issuing offer letters, contracts of employment, dealing with the referencing process, checking “right to work” documentation.
  • Along with the Directors ensure that performance management systems, including probation reviews and annual appraisals, are in place and adhered to. Using appraisal information, identify (with managers) what learning and development is required to enable employees to achieve the Company’s goals.
  • Draft and update operational templates such as contracts, offer letters and job descriptions as required, ensuring that employee administration and employee records, including compensation information and payroll changes, are kept up-to-date and follow Data Protection legislation.
  • Manage all employee relations issues including disciplinary, grievance and flexible working, from investigation to outcome, ensuring that managers are aware of their duties, with coaching given to individuals to undertake given roles e.g. disciplinary chair.
  • Have regular contact with managers to understand business issues and opportunities and incorporate these into HR plans and activities, coaching and upskilling on all areas of the employee life-cycle wherever possible. Where necessary influence managers to follow HR best practice enabling them to recruit and retain the high quality staff required to deliver the corporate strategy.
  • Responsibility for communicating all current legislation and ensuring the Company is at all times compliant. Including being responsibility for managing the Work Place Pension scheme.
  • To organise induction programmes for new members of staff with the HR assistant.
  • Attend the SLT and be the voice of the HR function.
  • Line manage and develop the HR assistant.
  • To maintain up-to-date HR records, including the computerized HR system. To provide monthly up-to-date reports on sickness absence, loyalty awards, anniversary dates.
  • To regularly review the Company’s terms and conditions of employment to ensure that they continue to meet requirements laid down by UK legislation.
  • To manage the annual appraisal review and monitor the process to ensure it remains fit for purpose.
  • Annual Salary Review/Performance Related Pay. To assist with the annual salary review documentation.
  • To assist in the development and implementation of the company ethos and values for our staff are: Integrity, Honesty, Compassion, Straight talking.
  • Maintain the HR database and responsible for monthly HR and payroll reporting.
  • Develop HR plans and activity to support a business planning for growth.
  • Designing and developing learning and development / training based on identified training needs.
  • Employee engagement (measuring & developing activity to grow engagement based on your employee’s feedback).
  • Reward - pay and benefits. Experience of developing cost-effective benefits strategy to support engagement plans.


The ideal candidate for this position should:

  • Be understanding of the culture of a small organisation with a number of loyal and long-standing employees. However, must also have the drive to be able to push through change sensitively and implement and embed new processes and procedures.
  • Be prepared to provide a professional HR service and come with ideas and skills to make improvements to the full HR process. Substantial experience in operational Human Resources is essential.
  • Be able to demonstrate ability to work flexibly and as a team member.
  • Should have experience of project and change management.
  • Be aware of best practice in HR, within the Creative Agency sector and be able to apply knowledge and experience to ensure best fit of HR policies, practice and procedures.
  • Be a skilled influencer at all levels and be able to back up advice with evidence.
  • Ideally have experience of coaching and mentoring line managers.


Candidate Specification:


  • CIPD qualified, or part qualified.
  • Experience of recruitment channels both in the Germany, USA and the UK (or international experience).
  • Proactive in improving recruitment and finding suitable high caliber candidates for all sectors within the agency in Germany and the UK.
  • Excellent communication and written skills - including one to one oral verbal communication, delivering presentations, drafting letters and emails, and writing policies and procedures, are essential.
  • Excellent organisational & time management skills essential.
  • A positive “can-do” approach.
  • Understanding of current UK Employment Legislation.
  • Ability to identify and provide training solutions.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically with a broad perspective
  • A practical approach to problem solving.
  • Team player - ability to work with internal and external colleagues collaboratively and in a team orientated way.
  • Confidentiality, diplomacy, tact, resilience.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed when under pressure.
  • Ability to meet all deadlines set.
  • Experience of overseeing outsourced monthly payroll.
  • Computer literate – Microsoft Office, Website, Intranet, MAC experience would be ideal but not essential.
