Childcare Solicitor

We are working with a Local Authority in the Oxfordshire region looking for permanent Childcare Solicitors from upwards of NQ PQE level to join their department.

The role offers a salary of £41,496 – £52,658 (DOE) and an excellent benefits package. This is a full – time position with the council operating on a flexible working environment.

About the position:

Childcare Lawyers are expected to undertake the following duties:

• Provide advice, representation and undertake research relating to childcare matters, including public law care proceedings, adoption, and child protection and fostering


• Carry your own caseload of matters in proceedings, pre – proceeding and complex matters with minimal supervision


• Undertake advocacy on behalf of the Council, in the relevant courts and tribunals and inquiries as may be required


• Draft all legal documents as required in the preparation of Court proceedings


• Manage the relationship with external legal advisors appointed in connection with provision of legal advice related to the council


• More experienced solicitors may be required support junior legal colleagues in their work and role modelling the quality of legal work required

About you:

The successful Childcare Lawyer will be an admitted Solicitor, Barrister or CILEX of England and Wales with a current practising certificate. You will be ambitious, a team player, driven by delivering a high-quality service, and have a positive attitude towards building relationships with social workers and your wider team. It is important that anyone joining the council is committed to this area of law and has a genuine enthusiasm for the work. The ability to work under pressure is imperative, be self-motivated, and able to work to deadlines.

Previous childcare local authority experience is desirable. You will also need to be comfortable undertaking some advocacy
