The Ministry works with Indigenous and rural communities to strengthen and diversify their economies. This position reports to an LSO 5 DPE, Engineering Group Lead or to a LSO 4 DPE, Senior Area Engineer. The position is focused on supporting the planning and implementation of capital and maintenance projects managed by the engineering program in Sea to Sky Resource District and possibly throughout the Coast Area. In addition, the position is to provide sound technical expertise, advice and guidance to support District, BC Timber Sales and Branch Engineering staff on all aspects of managing the Ministry resource roads and bridge infrastructure across the Province. Work is performed across large geographic areas and may vary depending on the priorities and unique situations within the Coast Area. Job Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Forestry Operations or Civil Engineering or equivalent; OR Technical diploma in Natural Resource Management or a in related field (i.e. forestry, forest engineering, survey geomatics, geoscience, construction). Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) as a Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) or related FPBC designation. Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction. Relevant designations with other professional organizations may also be considered (e.g.: EGBC). Confirmation of registration/eligibility will be required before an offer of employment can be made. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in road, bridge and major structures design or construction or maintenance; gained within the last ten (10) years. Preference may be given to those with five (5) or more years of this experience. Experience in Natural Resource Management, Resource Road Engineering, Natural Resource Operations and access management. Preference may be given to applicants who have: Experience with RoadEng, Civil3d and/or ArcGIS software programs. Experience with Public and First Nation engagement and consultation. Experience in contract and/or project supervision. Provisos: Valid B.C. driver’s licence. May be required to operate a variety of equipment. Will be required to conduct field work which may include travel and outdoor work in all weather conditions and flying in remote locations.
