Job Description

Responsibilities Leadership Coordinate with the Plant Manager to establish planning, priorities, and executing all tasks (daily tasks and PMs) related to facility maintenance based on operational and business needs. Develop methods and schedules for equipment maintenance. Responsible for handling emergency situations or after-hour calls for repair and maintenance. Support the development of maintenance policies and standards for New Toronto Food Co. Coordinate training sessions in facility maintenance, safety procedures, and methods for operators. Assist with development of budgets to upkeep with equipment and property structures. Machinery/Repair/Equipment Maintenance Identify and troubleshoot repairs / installations of equipment irregularities and equipment malfunctions. Repair and / or replace malfunctioning machinery parts through a preventative maintenance program or through ad hoc maintenance requirements. Perform parts fabrication required with maintenance and / or set-up. Administer preventative maintenance and standard work orders. Manage / Log inventory and labour reporting on a computerized maintenance program. Perform equipment repairs and upgrades to machinery through interfacing with technical personnel from external contractors/suppliers. Provide effective and efficient resolution of ad hoc issues as they occur. Equipment Set-Up and Operability Perform and/or assist Operators with set-ups /change overs. General Troubleshooting –requires excellent troubleshooting skills, and should be able to follow steps to isolate and address issues for a wide range of issues: PLC/HMI, Photo sensors, Vision Systems, drive-mechanisms, including, but not limited to, motors, gearboxes, pulleys and bearings, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, etc. General electrical troubleshooting as authorized. Continuous Improvement Drive line agility, automation & capabilities (including spare parts). Lead and improve the Site preventative maintenance and spare part program. Conceptualize and implement design upgrades to outmoded devices and systems to increase efficiencies. Aid in the installation of new equipment. Review new equipment purchase specifications. Provide feedback with regards to equipment design and operability. Participate, as required, in Factory Acceptance Tests, commissioning and start-up of new equipment installations. Support the New Product Launch process as required. Health, Safety and Quality Advise the plant manager in possible improvements to buildings and equipment to ensure they maintain proper health and safety standards. Proactively identify, report, and resolve safety concerns. Observe and conform to EH&S and GMP guidelines and procedures. Implement safety programs, i.e. Lock-out Tag-out, Electrical Safety, etc. Identify safety risks and execute machine hazard assessments. Housekeeping Maintain a clean work environment on the production floor and within the maintenance shop. Perform other duties as assigned and required. Able to identify issues and decide on required actions. Competence to plan maintenance schedules. Able to read technical drawings and technical specifications. Knowledgeable of automated/computerized machinery. Able to analyze and solve problems. Competent with computers and Microsoft Office Suite. Strong critical thinking skills. Qualifications Minimum Education Level: Minimum high school education. Post-secondary education and/or trade school training an asset. Minimum Years of Experience: 3 – 5 years with 1 years experience preferred, with experience in a high-speed packaging environment an asset. Licenses or Certifications: Millwright or electrician certification an asset (Licensed Millwright/Mechanic (433A) within the Province of Ontario). Good understanding of basic mechanical principles. Able to apply mechanical knowledge to process equipment to obtain efficient performance. Strong working knowledge of PLC’s, pneumatics, and hydraulic systems, strong mechanical aptitude. English language proficiency; ability to resolve issues in a tactful and diplomatic manner, communicate expectations and outline maintenance requirements - Spanish a plus. Working Conditions Must be comfortable working in a cold environment. Steel toe (CSA approved) footwear is required at all times in the warehouse.
