We are also proud to be named Canada’s Most Admired Corporate Cultures for 2023 Learn more at shn.ca Job Description: Position Overview: Reporting to Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, planning implementation and evaluating nursing care and practice activities in a multidisciplinary family centered environment. Patient caseload includes the post-surgical adult population with a broad spectrum of medical diagnoses. You will be able to participate in continuous education opportunities and workshops to help further your education. You will be able to bring your passion for surgical nursing to the department while advocating for patients and caregivers alongside RN’s and RPN’s. Your application submitted will be considered for all three SHN hospitals including, General, Birchmount and Centenary. The departments include 3A Surgery, 3 Central Surgical, CP3 Ortho, 5E Rehab and 5th Level Surgical. What You’ll Love About SHN: New to Surgical Nursing? Your customized orientation will take place over 4 weeks and will be followed by a meeting with your Clinical Practice Leader to ensure all of your learning goals are met. Ongoing Skill Advancement: In-house courses and workshops to advance skills like wound care and ACLS certifications. Our surgical program is a part of the Total Joint Network, and participates in projects related to care of joint replacement patients and patients with hip fractures Benefits Coverage: Full-Time Permanent includes comprehensive medical and dental coverage and a defined pension plan through HOOPP. Our ongoing commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion Requirements: Current RPN certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing Competent to perform CPR at a Basic Cardiac Life Support level 2 years of experience in Acute Medical Nursing or recent related clinical placement experience Health assessment course, medication course Demonstrated knowledge of current BPG in pressure ulcer prevention and wound /ostomy care Comprehensive knowledge of various types of wounds, dressings and VAC dressing therapy Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with patients, families, all levels of staff and the community Ability to work well independently and to exercise sound judgement Ability to perform the essential duties of the position Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues and volunteers and other members of the community and public Demonstrates values consistent with SHN's Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation.
