Job Summary & Responsibilities Come join our team of dedicated and caring educators at Abbotsford Senior Secondary School as we work together to meet the needs of our diverse student population. The successful applicant will teach English 10, Career Life Education 10, English Language Learning Support. This opportunity is a temporary UFN contract, which is subject to change or cancel before June 27, 2025. In the event the teacher returns to work (work-hardening, part-time, full-time) before the end of the school year, the duration and/or FTE of this temporary assignment will be amended. The successful applicant must accept the reduced work week (amended to a part-time contract) but will have the option to remain in a temporary 1.0 FTE contract by working as a Priority TTOC on other days until June 27, 2025. The starting annual salary for this full-time Secondary School Teacher position ranges from $61,838 to $108,458, with placement on the July 1, 2024 Teacher Salary Grid based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement. Education & Experience Major/minor in English Experience teaching English Language Arts at the Secondary level Secondary teacher training with experience in Career Education Experience teaching Career Life Education 10 and Career Life Connections 12 Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) Certificate from an accredited program Training and experience administering and interpreting IPT Assessments Familiarity with IELTS instruction Familiarity of the BC ELL Standards Experience teaching ELL learners at the Secondary level Experience using technology to facilitate language acquisition Eligible for Abbotsford Academic English Language Program certificate Eligible for B.C. Certification Satisfactory teacher evaluation and/or final practicum reports Teaching Competencies All teachers are expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Ability to consider and respond appropriately to the needs, feelings and capabilities of others in a tactful, compassionate and respectful manner. Organization & Planning: Ability to plan and organize for effective instruction, differentiation and assessment Classroom Management: Create and maintain an optimal learning environment for each student while managing student behavior and classroom dynamics. Facilitation & Engagement: Ability to capture and maintain students’ interest, effort, participation and enthusiasm for both the content and the process of learning Assessment & Coaching: Utilize balanced assessment and feedback to improve student learning including the use of formative and summative assessment strategies. Collaboration & Teamwork: Collaborate with others to achieve group goals and objectives Caring & Inclusiveness: Create and maintain an environment that is caring, inclusive and supportive of all students Flexibility & Adaptability: Demonstrate flexibility in the ability to adjust and adapt to changing circumstances View Teaching Competencies Detail
