Job Description

Experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon Vacancy – Join One of the Top 10 Practices in the Country!

Due to one of our vets relocating, a rare opportunity has arisen for an experienced small animal veterinary surgeon to join our award-winning team at Emersons Green Veterinary Surgery. We are seeking a dedicated and motivated individual who is keen to be involved in all aspects of veterinary practice, with a special interest in mentoring and supporting others. While a certificate holder or someone with a keen interest in medicine would be fantastic, this is not essential.

Why Join Us?

At Emersons Green Veterinary Surgery (EGVS), we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional veterinary care and fostering a supportive, family-like atmosphere. Our practice has been recognised with multiple prestigious awards, including Petplan Practice of the Year, Vet of the Year, and Veterinary Practice Design awards. Despite these accolades, we have maintained our close-knit, family-run feel, with both founding directors still actively involved in the practice.

The Role:
  • Work Schedule: 27-30 hours per week, spread over 3 days with alternating Fridays off. You will also participate in our Saturday rota, working 1 in 4 or 5 Saturdays (08:30 – 14:30).
  • Work-Life Balance: We prioritise flexibility and a healthy balance between work and personal life, offering a range of benefits to support this.
  • Salary: £60,000 - £70,000 (pro-rata for 40 hours/week).
  • Career Development: We offer extensive opportunities for career development, including CPD funding and support for further qualifications.
The Clinic:

We are proud to be an ISFM Gold Cat Clinic and have been a Fear Free Practice for 8 years. Our clinic is equipped with the latest technology, including:

  • Digital radiography and two digital dental suites.
  • A full ophthalmology suite.
  • Fully equipped labs, including digital cytology.
  • Videoscope and multiparameter anaesthesia monitoring.
  • Access to telemedicine.

We regularly rank in the top 10 of IVC practices based on the current IVC Metrics Dashboard.

Our Team:
  • Experience: Our clinical team has a broad range of experience, from 2 to 40 years. We have 3 certificate nurses specialising in dentistry, anaesthesia, and ECC, 2 Advanced Practitioners, and access to a weekly to bi-weekly visiting diagnostic imager who is an RCVS Fellow.
  • Referral Services: We provide in-house referrals in dentistry, diagnostic imaging, and ophthalmology, and we host a visiting orthopaedic surgeon.
  • Technology & Workflow: We use up-to-date technology, including our bespoke Merlin PMS diary system, to streamline workflows and ensure that you can spend quality time with clients and their pets. Appointments are a minimum of 20 minutes, with flexibility to extend as needed.
Our Location:

Located just outside the town, our practice is surrounded by beautiful countryside, with excellent access to Bath, Bristol, the Cotswolds, and Devon. For those who enjoy cycling, we have ample cycle paths and a Cycle to Work scheme to support a greener commute.

Our Commitment to You:

We believe that our people are the heart of our practice, and we invest in our team, our premises, and our processes to ensure the best possible working environment.

Benefits Include:

  • Work-Life Balance:
  • 6.6 weeks annual leave.
  • Additional holiday entitlement for your birthday.
  • Wellbeing Support:
  • Private Medical Insurance.
  • Employee Assistance Programme – 24/7 confidential helpline.
  • Enhanced family-friendly policies, including maternity/paternity/adoption/shared parental and surrogacy pay.
  • Weekly sessions with our in-house Mental Health First Aider.
  • Development Opportunities:
  • £1,250 CPD allowance and 24 hours of paid CPD leave (pro-rata).
  • Certificate support and access to learning through IVC Evidensia Academy.
  • Access to Vetlexicon, funding for research, and a £1,250 annual Care Fund for use on patients.
  • Infection Prevention and Control and Quality Improvement Programmes.
  • Professional Memberships & Insurance:
  • BVA membership.
  • VDS cover.
  • RCVS fees.
  • Colleague Benefits:
  • Company pension scheme, with IVC Evidensia contributions.
  • Cycle to Work and Green Cars schemes.
  • Access to a wide range of discounts and cashback through participating retailers.
  • Discounted treatment for your own pets at any IVC Evidensia practice.

If you are ready to join a supportive, award-winning team and contribute to the continued success of our practice, we would love to hear from you.

To apply, please submit your CV and cover letter to Louise Brice at lmbriceuk@emersonvet.co.uk.
