Principal Ecologist

Location – Glasgow

Salary - £47,000 - £58,000

Full time permanent – 35 hours per week

Take an active role in the delivering the business plan objectives of development and expansion.


The Role – Principal Ecologist

Maintain your passion for surveying and fieldwork at Principal level.

  • Manage projects, budgets and cashflow, attend meetings, provide advice to clients and manage bid production.
  • Lead, motivate and manage a team
  • Hold responsibility for technical quality and approval of project deliverables
  • Undertake ecological surveys and analyse results of field surveys
  • EcIA, HRA, Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs) & biodiversity strategies
  • Conduct licensable work in relation to protected species
  • Mentor staff towards licensable standards
  • Liaise with statutory authorities
  • Undertake performance management of assigned team members
  • Provide training and mentoring to staff
  • Deliver business development strategies
  • Design research projects and contribute to the development of best practice with respect to training and survey standards
  • Be yourself, enthusiastic and enable personal and professional development


Attributes Required:

  • Ideally 8+ years within an ecological or environmental consultancy, with a proven track record of technical delivery and team leadership.
  • A relevant degree in an environmental discipline
  • UK driving licence
  • Full or Associate Member of CIEEM
  • Commercial and project management skills
  • Able to work hybrid / remote in one of the multiple office locations across Scotland
  • A passion for nature and a commitment to collaboration
  • A degree in a relevant environmental discipline
  • Species licences
  • Writing and delivering EcIA, HRA, Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs),
  • Writing and delivering BREEAM/ Biodiversity Net Gain assessments and Ecology Chapters for Environmental Statements
  • The willingness to work as part of a high performing and collaborative team



On Offer

  • Salary up to £47,000 - £54,000 depending on experience and level
  • 35 hours working week with flexible start and finish times
