PMT Play Music Today is the UK’s leading multi-channel retailer of musical instruments, music technology, and professional audio equipment for hobbyists, enthusiasts and professional musicians. PMT generates over £40 million in revenue annually through 12 destination stores and via its website, www.pmtonline.co.uk.

PMT is a key partner for many well-known musical instrument brands, such as Fender, Yamaha, Roland, and others. Additionally, the company has an expanding portfolio of its own brands, which offer substantial growth opportunities.

The team is currently pursuing a business plan to drive growth by significantly developing the online operation, optimising its store network, and emerging its own-brand offering into international markets.

The business now needs a high-quality Director of eCommerce & marketing to drive significant growth through PMT’s online channel and to develop and enhance the brand's multi-channel strategy. The successful candidate will become a core member of the senior leadership team and will play a key role in setting the future strategic direction of the business.

The role and candidate profile

The key objective of the role is to drive the online channel so that PMT is able to build from its historical position as a primarily ‘bricks & mortar” business to be a category-leading omnichannel brand. It is expected that the successful candidate will be able to direct and control the scaling of the web operations and will have a strong background in performance marketing.

• Proven track record in rapidly expanding an e-commerce operation.

• Numerical and analytical skills – a data-driven decision-maker capable of identifying trends and patterns from large datasets.
• Strong business acumen and sound commercial judgement.
• Ability to prioritize and focus, delivering key projects efficiently.
• Ability to lead a high-performing team through clear communication, goal setting, leading by example, training, and personal development.
• Willingness to roll up sleeves, both to understand the details and share the burden with the team to get key projects across the line.
• Ability to work collaboratively with other members of the senior leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

• Working with the Board to develop and refine eCommerce/multi-channel brand strategy and direction for the business.
• Setting and taking responsibility for achieving ambitious growth targets for the PMT online business.
• P&L responsibility for online, including accountability for all web metrics such as traffic, conversion, AOV, and customer acquisition and retention targets.
• Overseeing paid search, affiliate, and social media marketing to meet agreed CPA and ROAS targets.
• Reviewing and evaluating potential additional customer acquisition channels.
• Managing the email marketing program to enhance customer retention and lifetime value as well as email revenues.
• Leading trading meetings, managing the trade marketing calendar, and collaborating with the product and buying teams to ensure that working capital investment aligns with key trading requirements.
• Oversee management of the customer service team to ensure key operational SLAs are met.
• Working with the Head of Marketing and retail management to deliver a seamless multi-channel brand offering to customers who wish to engage across channels.
• Develop and drive website performance through enhanced UX, CVR, search and merch and PDP.
