Senior Project Manager (Order-to-Cash)


Location: London (Hybrid 4 day per week onsite)

Contract Type: Contract (Outside IR35)

Duration: 6 months with the possibility to extend


We are seeking a highly skilled Project Manager to join a leading shipping company based in London. This role is pivotal to the successful execution of commercial shipping projects, focusing on freight, hire, contracts, and Order-to-Cash (O2C)/Quote-to-Cash (Q2C) processes. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in contract management, financial operations, and process optimisation within the maritime industry. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Legal, Finance, Sales, Operations, and IT, to ensure that business processes are efficient and aligned with company goals. This is a hybrid role, requiring four days a week onsite in London, and falls outside IR35.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyse and manage the commercial aspects of shipping projects, focusing on contracts, freight, hire, pricing, invoicing, and revenue recognition.
  • and improve Q2C/O2C processes, ensuring seamless integration from contract negotiation to billing and payments.
  • Lead contract negotiations, amendments, and renewals, ensuring alignment with commercial objectives. Assess potential risks and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with IT to ensure successful integration and optimisation of ERP systems (Oracle, SAP, or other Charter-to-Cash systems) to streamline O2C/Q2C processes.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams (Legal, Finance, Operations, IT) to gather business requirements and ensure commercial strategies align with operational goals.
  • Analyse and map processes related to freight, hire, and financial operations. Identify inefficiencies and implement best practices to drive operational improvements.
  • Provide detailed analysis and reports on financial and operational data related to contracts, freight, and shipping activities. Offer actionable insights to improve performance.
  • Assist in delivering key projects related to system upgrades, process re-engineering, and ERP implementations. Provide guidance on best practices and system configurations.
  • Create comprehensive documentation for business processes, systems, and workflows. Provide ongoing support and training for end-users of ERP systems.


Essential Experience & Skills:


  • Deep understanding of freight and hire processes within the maritime industry.
  • Proven experience managing and optimising Quote-to-Cash (Q2C) and/or Order-to-Cash (O2C) processes.
  • Experience with Oracle, SAP, or similar ERP systems, particularly in the Charter-to-Cash (C2C) lifecycle, including O2C/Q2C.
  • Strong experience handling, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts, particularly in a shipping or logistics environment.
  • Exceptional financial and data analysis abilities, with a talent for interpreting complex commercial information and providing actionable insights.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and manage multiple internal and external stakeholders, with excellent influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in process optimisation, driving efficiencies in financial and operational processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to stakeholders at all levels.


Nice to Have:


  • Familiarity with the disbursement process, handling port expenses, and experience with husbandry services such as vessel support and port logistics.
  • Understanding of the legal and regulatory frameworks related to shipping contracts and operations.
