Job Description

This is an exciting Obstetrics and Gynaecology opportunity in Queensland, Australia.


This is a fantastic opportunity to join Rockhampton Hospital, located just 20 minutes from Queensland's Capricorn Coast. The hospital is a 305-bed facility and serves as the main referral center for the Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service.


About the O&G Department:


The Obstetrics and Gynaecology department provides maternity care for approximately 1,500 deliveries each year, offering a combination of Shared Care, Continuity Midwife teams, and High-Risk Clinics. The department is supported by a Level 4 Special Care Nursery for babies born at 32 weeks or later. In addition to maternity care, the department offers advanced laparoscopic and major gynaecological surgeries with 12-14 operating theatre lists every fortnight. There are daily general gynaecology and antenatal clinics, as well as uro-gynaecology and colposcopy services, including a community-based Aboriginal Australian antenatal clinic. This role also offers the chance to enhance skills in obstetric ultrasound.

Role Responsibilities:


In this role, the candidate will work closely with the Director to ensure that clinical services meet the highest standards of care. Responsibilities will include teaching and supervising trainees, medical colleagues, students, and staff, as well as contributing to the development and management of O&G services. The candidate will focus on improving patient safety, clinical governance, audits, and service planning. Care will also be provided at other facilities when necessary.


Selection Criteria:


  • FRANZCOG qualification or SIMG equivalent.
  • Applicants assessed or in the process of being assessed by RANZCOG will be highly regarded.
  • Expertise in obstetrics and gynaecology.
  • A demonstrated commitment to improving patient safety and quality of care.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • A willingness to participate in teaching, supervision, and professional development activities.
  • Vaccination against Covid-19, MMR, Varicella, Pertussis, and Hep B.
  • A valid driver’s license.
