Design Team Lead

  1. Salary £40k per annum plus excellent benefits

  4. Office Based - Southampton (Up to 2 days WFH after probation)


This role is for an experienced Graphic Designer to make their mark with a leading global brand.

Reporting into the Brand Manager, the Design Team Lead will be responsible for local marketing asset readiness for all product launches and campaigns in the UK and Ireland market.


Managing x2 Graphic Designers, the role will be responsible for the localisation of global marketing materials for UK brand and retail marketing, ensuring market relevancy and compliance. By exception, where local campaigns are required, the role is responsible for managing ideation, production, design and project management.


Line management experience, as well as effective project management and stakeholder management skills are essential in this role. The perfect candidate will be experienced in all areas of creative: from ideation, to design and production.


Key Duties;

  • Manage effective prioritisation of artworking projects to align with brand and business objectives. You’ll manage traffic, projects and stakeholder needs to ensure creative deadlines are met
  • Line management and development of x2 Graphic Designers
  • Be a guardian of the Garmin brand, by ensuring that all assets & communications adhere to our brand guidelines
  • Responsible for local product launch asset readiness, following Go-To-Market processes, ensuring all product launch marketing materials are delivered on time
  • Distribute marketing material to UK retailers and distributors using Garmin digital asset management and distribution platforms
  • Effectively manage all communications with EMEA and Global stakeholders relating to marketing asset readiness and requirements, on behalf of the UK Marketing Team.
  • Ensure successful and compliant adaptation and localisation of Global marketing material, for the following:
  1. New product launches and campaigns
  2. Ongoing products and campaigns
  3. Advertising and partnership campaign activity
  • Where required, produce local creative ideas, production, design, and artwork in response to projects briefed for the UK and Ireland market. Manage external production agencies where required
  • Ensure marketing materials are easily accessible and within usage rights, to the wider marketing team, by maintaining consistent organisation & maintenance of assets, locally
  • Responsibility for securing talent/photographer/music/VO rights where required
  • Utilise project management tool Jira, and platforms like Sharepoint, to optimise workloads, prioritisation, approvals, and stakeholder management
  • Ensure all marketing activity complies with relevant laws and regulations e.g. Trading Standards, GDPR, ASA guidelines
  • Ensure personal compliance with Code of Conduct, Web Governance, Bribery Act, Competition Law, GDPR and other company policies
  • Responsible for supporting the brand manager with Marketing-related compliance programs – collating and creating internal guidelines on internal and external processes including GDPR, Privacy and others
  • Create high quality presentations for internal and external meetings, to support the business
  • Manage local design agencies where required
  • Understand the basics of Marketing & Advertising principles, and our business channels, to optimise design work
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of Garmin products, within remit
  • Keep up to date with current design trends, creative software packages and techniques as well as creative studio hardware requirements.
  • Work on ad-hoc projects where necessary


Experience & Education;

  • Recognisable qualification in graphic design
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in similar role for an established brand, retailer or agency
  • At least 5 years line management experience
  • Expert knowledge of graphic design fundamentals, marketing creative and typography
  • Previous content production experience is essential
  • A passion for or previous experience in tech, sports & fitness is highly desirable
  • Must possess a working knowledge of all major marketing channels and relevant creative asset formats
  • Demonstrable project management and stakeholder management experience
  • Ability to conceptualise ideas and develop innovative creative solutions
  • Ability to understand the business needs to develop successful creative assets
  • Understanding of advertising principals (modern brand theories) and media landscape is preferred
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
