Job Description

Description

We’re a niche legal and business affairs consultancy to the live events, festivals and venues industry. We are offering an exciting opportunity to join our growing team, advising some of the leading names in the live entertainment sector on a range of commercial and corporate matters.

We’re a hybrid office and you have the choice to work remotely from home or from our offices in Shoreditch, with a new office space due to open soon in West Yorkshire – the choice of where you work from is entirely yours - no Amazon rules here, we’re all adults! With our remote and flexible working arrangements you can be based anywhere in the UK whilst being connected to the rest of the team through our various weekly team video calls, regular individual catch ups and quarterly social get-togethers including our summer concert party.

Role Requirements

We’re looking for an outgoing, commercially-minded and experienced 4-6 PQE solicitor who ideally has both commercial and corporate law experience with the ability to manage a varied workload across transactional and non-transactional matters and to work independently (with support from our senior team always on hand as required).

Our clients range from solopreneurs to privately owned, independent businesses to some of the biggest names in the live events industry and we are looking for someone who has experience of advising a similar breadth of clients.

We work with a range of businesses within the sector including festival and event promoters, venue operators, artist agents and suppliers (including bar operators, production companies, marketing agencies, ticketing agencies and software platforms) which keeps our work interesting and varied.

As a small team we’re all very hands on. Everyone manages their own matters and deals directly with our clients so you can be sure that you’ll never be a small cog in a large wheel. You’ll have exposure to not only client work but business and practice development with investment from us in your personal growth.

Commercial work is the bread and butter of our services and will make up most of your workload but we do also work on transactional matters and so ideally we are looking for someone who has experience across both.

Your role would involve:-

· Drafting, advising on and negotiating commercial contracts e.g. artist engagement agreements, sponsorship and listing agreements, site and venue hire agreements, ticketing agreements, supplier agreements (e.g. bars, contractors, traders, merchandise etc), co-promoter and joint venture agreements, terms and condition of business, MSAs, NDAs, music clearances, location releases, waivers etc

· Drafting consumer facing terms and conditions e.g. for entry to events and venues, competitions, websites, mobile apps and terms and conditions of purchase

· Assisting with the creation of in-house templates and developing our automation offering

· Reviewing contracts and answering ad hoc client queries

· Intellectual property: assisting with drafting IP assignments and licenses

· Data protection: carrying out data protection audits and assisting with drafting data processing and data sharing agreements, privacy policies and internal data protection policies

· Transactional matters: our practice mainly focuses on advising clients in connection with consolidation and expansion within the live events industry including: M&A, investments and joint ventures

· Assisting with company secretarial duties (e.g. Companies House filings)

· Legal research

· Assisting with assessing new legal tech and efficiency solutions

About You

You will be friendly and approachable with a “can do” attitude and dedication to delivering projects to deadline (sometimes tight due to the nature of the festival season and fast approaching events or on sale dates), whilst protecting the client’s best interests.

Our clients regard us as an outsourced equivalent of their in-house legal function and as a team we’re dedicated and committed to understanding our clients’ businesses and helping them to achieve their goals, with a pragmatic and commercially-minded outlook. We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic about the live events industry with a passion for supporting it to thrive.

We pride ourselves on speaking our clients’ language and you will be able to communicate in a way that is clear, concise, approachable and avoids stuffy legal jargon.

You will be organised and motivated with an ability to work autonomously and to multi-task and prioritise between a varied workload.

Ideally you will have previous in-house experience and have acted for clients operating in the live events, venues, music or entertainment industry.

You will be a UK qualified solicitor (or equivalent) who is entitled to practice in England and Wales with at least 4PQE.

Benefits:

Bonus: Annual discretionary performance-related bonus

· Private health insurance

· Coverage of remote working expenses (e.g. stationary, mobile phone, laptop, IT kit)

· 25 days holiday (excl public holidays)

· £250p.a. dedicated budget for tickets to attend events of your choice

· Dedicated budget for training and development (TBA depending upon training requirements)

· Guest list passes to our clients’ festivals and events (where available)

· Annual team summer concert party (past events have included Lady Gaga and Beyonce at Tottenham Hotspurs and Taylor Swift at Wembley)

· Annual team innovation retreat

· Invitations to attend industry events (e.g. Association of Independent Festivals Congress, Night Time Industries Association Summit)
