Job Description

This is a great opportunity for a Risk Manager to join our Data Governance, Reporting and Controls team within Credit Risk Measurement. The teams cover a span of accountabilities including credit risk regulatory and critical reporting, as well as leading governance for data in the credit risk and modelling data domain, and all credit risk and financial controls on behalf of the Chief Credit Officer.


This Risk Manager role will initially be responsible for a large single delivery related to our data submitted to the Credit Reference Agencies, with a potential longer-term role more focused on Reporting. Primary accountability is for the management of Credit Reference Agencies data and data quality enhancements. You will lead and support direct reports to enable effective monitoring and management of Credit Reference Agencies data and will be required to engage with internal and external senior stakeholders, leading on multiple activities to improve and report on data quality.

For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon or Northampton office. What you’ll be doing

Recognised as a subject matter expert in your area, your work will be varied and technically demanding. Reporting into a Risk Manager Lead within the Credit Risk Measurement team, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing, documenting and delivering governance, process and control improvements for Credit Reference Agency data submissions and associated data quality.
  • Work with other data governance and subject matter experts to manage compliance to the Society data governance controls and standards for the credit risk data domain
  • Effectively planning and prioritising activities, engaging with key internal and external stakeholders at a senior level.
  • Embedding and utilising data quality tools and techniques to create meaningful insight, identify issues and drive data quality improvements.
  • Engage with stakeholders to establish fixes and delivering to a satisfactory conclusion.
  • Manage reporting on Credit Reference Agency data quality to various fora and senior management.
  • Leading and coaching a team of analysts, support and develop a team of Subject Matter Experts.


In this position you will play a lead role in the Credit Risk Measurement team. Working with other specialists in the Society you will be expected to push for better by defining and helping develop data and systems which support the long-term Credit Risk capability. In doing so you will be ensuring the Society remains focussed, fit and fast and retain the confidence of our external stakeholders and regulators.


About you

As a minimum requirement you’ll need to have:

  • Experience of supporting those around you through line management, coaching or mentoring experienced analysts.
  • Proficiency in SAS (or equivalent statistical programming software) and Microsoft Office Applications.
  • A proven track record of meeting tight deadlines with external regulators or agencies
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills to liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
  • The ability to work both as a team and using your own initiative with an analytical mindset to review and challenge results, and creativity to develop innovative solutions to complex demands.
  • A clear understanding of the importance of data management and financial controls.
