We are looking for a motivated Mechanical Engineer to join one of our multi-disciplinary engineering teams. Working on a range of mechanical equipment from Laboratory to Pilot Plant scale, you will play a key role in ensuring maintenance and modification tasks are delivered effectively. In addition, you will be required to respond to breakdowns and troubleshoot operational issues in a safe and timely manner.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical design & engineering and possess an enthusiastic drive for problem-solving and implementing solutions. In addition, the candidate will have a sound understanding of key legislation relating to Pressure Equipment, PUWER, LOLER, and other relevant legislation and standards. The ideal candidate will also have experience with Management of Change systems, Safe Systems of Work, Risk Assessments & Method Statements.

Technically, the candidate will have experience with the design and installation of pipework, piping systems & pressure vessels, pumps, sealing systems, and small-bore instrument tubing, as well as experience working with material selection processes, and modern machining & fabrication techniques.

Your responsibilities:
  • Lead the design and upgrade of mechanical components and systems from concept to installation, ensuring functionality, efficiency, reliability, and safety.
  • Developing technical specifications, liaising with suppliers, and procuring mechanical equipment and components.
  • Use of CAD software (AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk Vault) to create detailed models, drawings, layouts, and P&ID's to capture modifications to existing assets and new projects.
  • Prepare and comprehensive design documentation, including specifications, test plans, and reports as well as reviewing technical documentation submitted by suppliers.
  • Day to day activities may include assisting with routine functioning of equipment, working with stakeholders and other engineering disciplines to complete statutory compliance work, repairs, modifications, and breakdowns.
  • Work closely with engineers, discipline leads, research group leaders, and team members to ensure seamless communication and integration of engineered solutions to work towards overall maintenance goals.
  • Ensure designs and installations meet industry standards, regulatory requirements, and quality benchmarks.
  • Experience of a CMMS system, ideally SAP Plant Maintenance, would be advantageous.

Requirements for the role:
  • Experience designing and working to relevant standards on pressure systems and associated equipment.
  • Experience with Autodesk products.
  • Ideally Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Experience using safety related systems (Safe Systems of Work, Risk Assessments, Management of Change).
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting on a variety of process systems.
  • Good collaboration, communication and teamwork skills.
