We are currently looking for an experienced consultant with expertise in the energy and commodities trading sector to join our team. The ideal candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of energy and commodities markets and hands-on experience working with commodities trading data in a surveillance context. This role will provide essential subject matter expertise in commodities trading to support our team of market abuse specialists, supporting clients with the assessment of market abuse risk and implementation and optimisation of trade surveillance technologies, to ensure compliance with Market Abuse Regulation and REMIT II.
Knowledge of commodities markets and technical capability is essential, as you will be engaging with internal and external SMEs to support the delivery of data-led solutions for market abuse risk. You should be able to demonstrate your understanding of these markets. We are looking for individuals who can support the delivery of market abuse surveillance engagements in the Energy and Commodity Trading sector.
Your Main Responsibilities will include the following.
Provide subject matter expertise on energy and commodities trading to support market abuse specialists in establishing relevant market abuse risks and robust surveillance technologies.
Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including traders, compliance officers, and IT professionals
Collaborate with Compliance and IT teams to implement remediation strategies to ensure compliance with Market Abuse Regulation, REMIT and other regulatory requirements.
Reviewing end-to-end data and process flow supporting surveillance implementations.
Actively contributing on client-facing project work, being self-starting and motivated to produce the required high standard of deliverables.
Essential skills and experience
In order to be successful you will need to show ability in most of the following areas:
Demonstrable technical knowledge of physical commodity products such as Crude Oil, Refined Products, Metals and Coal and their characteristics in relation to trading e.g. storage and inventory, commodity movements, intraday and day-ahead trading, platts and other benchmark prices.
Understanding and experience in Power and Gas markets and consideration of its characteristics e.g. storage, balancing markets, capacity nominations and scheduling, and how this may be utilised to commit abuse
Understanding and experience working with commodity trading data and its elements e.g. positions, exposure, proxy-hedges, cracks, diffs
Understanding of market abuse risk types and how this may crystallise in commodities markets
Understanding of the relationships between different commodity products and how this may be exploited via abusive practices.
Experience of hands on data analysis, and summarising data for senior stakeholders.
Ability to comfortably discuss and explain technical matters to technical and non-technical audiences.
Knowledge and interest in the Market Abuse regulatory environment.
Experience of risk management tasks and approaches.
