Job Title: Chief Engineering

Department: Engineering and Maintenance Department

Report to: Operations Manager (Analyst)

About this Position

Implement and execute all maintenance programs to ensure the maintenance team's efficient performance of bakery equipment and processes, incorporating the highest safety, quality, and sanitation standards according to FDA regulations.

Responsibilities

  • This position supervises all plant equipment for seamless, efficient production of quality food products. Be involved in continuous improvement projects and initiatives.
  • Perform preventive maintenance procedures on plant equipment and buildings to ensure equipment efficiency and reliability, food and employee safety, product quality, and compliance with FDA regulations.
  • Coordinate and oversee preventive, corrective, and unscheduled maintenance programs.
  • Coordinate and oversee work orders, documentation, and maintenance reference cards.
  • Monitor Maintenance reports and use these reports to initiate remedial actions to improve maintenance performance.
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and improve maintenance procedures
  • Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications and standards.
  • Meet project completion timelines.
  • Verify compliance with Governmental requirements (OSHA, EPA, FDA)
  • Requisition tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Responsible for training engineering, maintenance, and contractor personnel on Lock-Out / Tag-Out, Confined Space, Hazardous Material Handling, and Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Ensure that maintenance procedures are completed in line with company policies and standards.
  • The worker must be able to ascend and descend building stairways, ladders, and ramps to reach job assignments and perform tasks required in job classification. Specific tasks require standing for long periods, climbing, reaching above shoulders, walking, lifting, grasping, kneeling, bending, and twisting.
  • Job duties are varied and spread across several locations in the plant. Therefore, special assignments can be created on a case-by-case basis.
  • Perform all related assignments, including assisting and training other associates as required.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • The education and background experiences for this position include:
  • Minimum of 3 years of previous supervisory and safety training experience
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EEO, FDA, and USDA standards and compliance is a plus
  • Food manufacturing experience is a plus
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of web-based computer programs and Microsoft Office, Excel, etc.

Educational Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Technical degree in a related field or AIB Maintenance Resident Course a plus
  • Additional courses favorable: Forklift certification, Level 1 First Aid, Confined Space, Fall Arrest, Heavy Equipment Operator, Train the Trainer certifications

Competencies:

  • Must have maintenance supervisory experience, ideally in a fresh baked goods or food manufacturing facility environment, and strong communication, leadership, and team-building skills.
  • Operational background in electrical circuitry and bread and roll production equipment repair.
  • Some refrigeration and fuel-burning equipment knowledge is a must.
  • Must be computer literate and have effectively built, developed, and led teams.
  • Mental and visual ability to identify parts and read mechanical and electrical drawings, instructions, gauges, micrometers, etc.
  • Workers are subject to inside work and protected from weather and outside conditions. Workers are subjected to temperatures above 100 degrees for more than one hour, which are process-related and more extreme in summer months.
  • Worker subject to noise sufficient to require hearing protection in designated areas.
  • The worker is subject to hazards such as proximity to moving parts, electrical current, and moving objects carrying considerable weight and force.
  • Capable of working in an environment of flour dust.
  • Work requires reading, writing, and communicating in English to understand and follow work and safety instructions.
