What you'll be doing

The Registered Midwife is responsible for the delivery of Nursing care within a designated unit. The Registered Midwife functions within the Policies and Procedures of the Department of Health, South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD), Royal Hospital for Women (RHW) and the Nursing and Midwifery Division to co-ordinate and deliver high quality nursing care.

Clinical supervision at the point of care is the role and responsibility of each Registered Midwife within everyday clinical practice, in line with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council Decision Making Frameworks for Nurses and Midwives.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.

All Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.

Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.

Selection Criteria

  1. Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the National Nurses and Midwives Registration Board
  2. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others
  3. Demonstrated ability to proactively engage with patients/clients to enhance service delivery and to guide others in providing service excellence
  4. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and apply professional and ethical boundaries when dealing with complex situations
  5. Strong computer skills including Internet and email, and familiarity with health information systems
  6. Detailed knowledge and understanding of risk management, safety and quality principles and the role of the Registered Nurse in applying these principles
  7. Demonstrated commitment to the NSW Health Breastfeeding Policy and the BFHI Principles’
  8. A minimum of 1 year postgraduate experience working within either a women’s health surgical or midwifery or neonatal/paediatric setting – experience to align with either RN or RM AHPRA registration.
