Advertisement We are seeking an experienced Senior Aboriginal Health Worker who will be the Community Engagement Lead in our newly formed Fairfield Integrated Child and Family Hub, located at our Carramar site of Karitane. The Aboriginal Community Engagement Lead will provide specialist support to engage, develop and strengthen relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, stakeholders and communities across NSW. The successful applicant will provide support to the Executive team in organisational strategic directions including strategic workforce and service planning, program implementation, including service delivery & evaluation. The Aboriginal Senior Leader will support and strengthen the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce across services and in alignment with the NSW Aboriginal Health Plan 2024-2034 and the Karitane Innovative Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) focusing on culturally safe health workplaces, supporting First Nations staff in all roles ensuring a sustainable workforce. This is an Identified Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander Position as stated under Section 50D of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 POSITION TITLE: Aboriginal Community Engagement Lead DEPARTMENT: Carramar site - Karitane OPERATIONAL BASE: Fairfield Integrated Child and Family Hub (138-150 The Horsley Dr, Carramar) Noting this will involve travel to other Karitane sites. AWARD: ABORIGINAL HEALTH WORKERS' (STATE) AWARD 2023 Health Professional and Medical Salaries (State) Award STATUS: Part-time fixed term until June 2029 HOURS Part-time 24 hours week VACCINATION CATEGORY: A (including current influenza Vaccinations) RESPONSIBLE TO: Project Lead and System Navigator- Fairfield Integrated Child and Family Hub _________________________________________________________________________________________ The Aboriginal Community Engagement Lead will provide specialist support to engage, develop and strengthen relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, stakeholders and communities across NSW. The Aboriginal community engagement Lead will work with teams and clinical staff to support First Nations families to provide person centred care that is culturally safe from the point of referral and across all Karitane primary, secondary and tertiary settings. This role is based at Carramar with limited travel to our offices in Randwick, Campbelltown and Shellharbour. ABOUT US Established in 1923, Karitane is a dynamic and innovative not for profit health organisation and registered charity providing early parenting services. We support families with children from birth to 5 years of age through building parenting capacity, enhancing parent child relationships and strengthening a family’s connections with supports in their community. Our services are evidence based and delivered by a caring and highly trained professional team of child and family health nurses, Paediatricians, social workers, psychologists and psychiatrists offering complete, holistic care. Key Responsibilities: • Provide leadership, support and advice to First Nations staff, Executive Team and Board to provide culturally safer services, programs and working environments for all First Nations people (Please note this role does not have direct reports) • Collaborate with health care workers to ensure culturally appropriate care and strengthen relationships. • Advocate for First Nations children and families from diverse backgrounds across Karitane. • Assist in the development of engagement strategies for First Nations people taking a lead role in supporting cross sector collaboration for better health outcomes for First Nations children and families. • Promote Karitane services and support partnerships with key Aboriginal Health Services and community stakeholders. Selection Criteria: (Each criteria below must be addressed in your cover letter) 1. This is an identified Aboriginal Position. Applicants must be of Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander descent, have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander cultures and have established links with their local Aboriginal community. An applicant’s race is a genuine occupational qualification and exemption is claimed under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW; 2. Relevant qualifications in health, health-related or community services discipline and / or relevant experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities 3. Have established connections to local First Nations communities, understanding First Nations cultures, traditions, and protocols. 4. Experience working with Aboriginal communities in healthcare or social services. 5. Proven capacity to provide leadership to respond to the health and social needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities 6. Strong knowledge, connection, and understanding of Aboriginal health services, Aboriginal organisations, and other relevant and culturally safe services. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT 1. Temporary part-time position in accordance with the Named NSW (Non-Declared) Affiliated Professional Staff and Associated (AHO) Staff Agreement 2022 Karitane services are provided at a number of sites within the Sydney Metropolitan and Regional NSW Areas. 2. The majority of Karitane services close for approximately two weeks over the Christmas/New Year period, during which time employees are required to take leave. 3.
