Job Description
As the Financial Accounting Manager, you will serve as the right-hand to our Corporate Controller. This is a critical role with responsibility for the day-to-day accounting operations, including partnering with accounts payable and accounts receivable, managing the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, and performing technical accounting research. You are a proactive self-starter with public accounting experience, strong technical skills, and a passion for building and improving processes.
Responsibilities
- Accounting Operations:
Manage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, including the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements.
Partner with accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring timely and accurate processing of transactions.
Work with the Human Resources team to review and process payroll and provide accounting expertise when necessary.
Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies as well as building them when necessary.
Technical Accounting:
Research and analyze technical accounting issues and provide guidance to the accounting group.
Stay abreast of new accounting pronouncements and assess their impact on the company.
Work with third parties to develop and implement sales and use tax best practices.
Assist in the implementation of new accounting standards if necessary.
Team Leadership & Mentorship:
Provide guidance and mentorship to the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Identify training needs and develop programs to enhance the team's technical skills and knowledge of best practices.
Process Improvement & Technology:
Identify opportunities to streamline and automate accounting processes.
Assist in the evaluation and implementation of new accounting software and technology.
Contribute to the development and documentation of accounting best practices.
Special projects:
Support the Corporate Controller on ad hoc projects, such as financial analysis, updating chart of accounts, reviewing opening balance sheets, facilitating our annual audit, and other process improvement initiatives.
Play a key role in M&A accounting and due diligence as the company grows.
Additional Responsibilities:
Handle additional responsibilities and projects as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
CPA or actively pursuing CPA certification.
3+ years of experience in public accounting, additional industry experience preferred.
Experience with accounting software systems, Acumatica preferred.
Experience with companies in the construction industry and knowledge of Work-in-Progress (WIP) accounting preferred.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive and proprietary information with discretion.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
Team player attitude is a must.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in financial software and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
Comfortable working with ambiguity and taking initiative.
