Job Description
Job Description : We are seeking an experienced AIX Administrator with a focus on Patch Management to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and administering IBM Power Servers and Hardware Management Consoles, along with overseeing patch management, security protocols, and system performance optimizations. This position requires a proactive approach in ensuring server reliability, availability, and security, with a particular focus on Power Server technology and associated tools. Key Responsibilities : System Administration & Management : - Administer IBM Power Servers and Hardware Management Console (HMC) for smooth and secure operation. - Manage IBM Power-related tools including POWER VC, POWER SC, and provide periodic reports to stakeholders. Performance Optimization & Monitoring : - Monitor system performance and resolve bottlenecks to enhance system efficiency. - Perform capacity planning and implement improvements for sustained performance. Security & Patch Management : - Execute AIX system patches, updates, and version upgrades to maintain security and stability. - Enforce security measures such as user access controls, authentication, and authorization for data protection. High Availability & Disaster Recovery : - Configure and manage high-availability solutions using PowerHA (HACMP) for critical applications. - Develop and execute disaster recovery procedures to ensure business continuity. Backup & Restore Management : - Implement and oversee backup and recovery processes, ensuring data integrity and minimizing downtime. Scripting & Automation : - Develop Shell and Perl scripts to automate tasks and streamline routine system management functions. Troubleshooting & Technical Support : - Provide expert-level troubleshooting for complex hardware, software, and network issues. - Interface with IBM support for planning and executing critical updates. Governance & Reporting : - Prepare monthly usage reports and oversee event monitoring from Power VC & Power SC. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address system-related issues and recommend process improvements. Documentation & Process Maintenance : - Develop and maintain operational processes, document procedures, and ensure adherence to SOPs. Qualifications and Skills Required : Technical Skills : - Minimum of 5 years' experience with IBM Power Servers, HMC, and technologies like LPAR, PowerVC, and PowerSC. - Expertise in AIX, UNIX, Linux, Solaris, and Microsoft Windows, along with Host Bus Adapter knowledge. - Proficiency in scripting with Shell and Perl, and familiarity with database concepts (Oracle/SQL Server). Certifications : - Relevant IBM certifications in Power Server and HMC administration. Methodologies : - Understanding of ITIL framework for Incident, Problem, Change, and Service Request management. - Experience in patch management, firmware upgrades, and technology level (TL) and service pack (SP) updates. Soft Skills : - Strong problem-solving skills, proactive communication, and ability to collaborate across teams. - Customer service focus with attention to detail and process optimization. Preferred Experience : - Hands-on experience in data migration, particularly CAD data migration. - Familiarity with backup solutions and containerization techniques like Docker or Kubernetes. - Experience with governance and reporting in a managed services environment (ref:hirist.tech)
