Principal Data Engineer

We have partnered with a global logistics business that is building a new Data Team to transform how the company utilises data! This is an exciting time to join as the team just getting started on its journey, building everything from scratch, from a plethora of data points and striving for full automation across the business.

This is a huge undertaking and they’re looking for a skilled Principal Data Engineer experienced in working with a high volume of diverse data and leading small teams from the front. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of data platforms, driving innovation and making a difference in core business activities.

Tech – Python | SQL | Spark | GCP | BigQuery | Data Warehouses, Lake Houses, Data Lakes

Location – Barcelona HQ – hybrid – 1 day a week in the office

What You’ll Do as a Principal Data Engineer:

• Solve complex data problems and deliver key insights to help the business achieve its goals.
• Architect and implement a Lake House structure within the Data Platform to enable data democratization.
• Mentor and coach data professionals on best practices and data standards.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure solutions align with business objectives and technical standards.
• Lead the implementation of emerging tools and processes to improve productivity and efficiency.
• Drive Data Strategy, Data Modeling, and Roadmap execution for the Data Platform.
• Work with Cloud technologies (GCP, AWS, Azure) and big data tools like BigQuery, Pub/Sub, and DataProc.

What We’re Looking for from a Principal Data Engineer:

• Degree in a STEM field
• Expertise in Data Engineering, cloud technologies (GCP preferred), and modern data architectures (Data Mesh, Lake House).
• Strong experience with SQL, Python/Scala, and analytic services in GCP or similar platforms.
• Proficient in database development with Hadoop, MPP engines, and cloud databases.
• Ability to lead data strategy and manage multiple projects independently.
