Job Description

Being part of Scottish Friendly presents a great opportunity to work in a customer-centric business to develop our proposition across a broad range of different savings and insurance products.


As a Senior Product Development Manager, you will have a focus on planning and delivering new products, changes to existing products, customer journeys and digital developments to our customers. A key responsibility will be to drive the development and enhancement of our product sets and identify new partnership opportunities, requiring you to play a lead role in cross-functional teams, including prioritising, designing, developing and implementing changes that meet our customers’ needs and business objectives.


You will also be required to support and manage our existing product set to ensure they continue to meet our customers’ needs, offer fair value and meet ongoing regulatory requirements.


This role has a wide remit, allowing you to work with different functions across the business, including Marketing, Change, IT, Finance, Customer Services and Risk, as well as with a range of third parties.


This is a fixed term contract for a period of 12 months.


Key Responsibilities:


Product development: Lead product development enhancements through cross-functional teams to meet customer needs and strategic business objectives by:


  • Identifying new opportunities through market understanding, competitor knowledge and ongoing customer feedback.
  • Collaborating across the team to prioritise initiatives and acquire key business stakeholder buy-in.
  • Driving out, documenting and validating requirements and journeys from stakeholders.
  • Providing technical product input into the development of requirements.
  • Coordinating and supporting implementations, including business readiness and communication plans, and working with Marketing to create take-to-market activities and messaging.
  • Producing and presenting project delivery metrics to Head of Products.
  • Monitoring product performance and leading retros post-launch to further inform future enhancements.

New Partner and Distribution Opportunities: Identify new opportunities with third parties to distribute our savings and investment (ISAs and Junior ISA) products:


  • Identifying and engaging new partners to enable new distribution routes to market, typically via a white-label relationship of our savings and investments products.
  • Understanding the commercial opportunity and wider implications of such partnerships to prioritise and acquire internal approve to move forward with preferred partners.
  • Working with Procurement and other key areas across the business to support due diligence, contractual discussions, journeys and controls to implement new third party propositions.
  • Providing ongoing relationship management with key savings and investment partners.


Ongoing Product Management: Being responsible for the effective ongoing management of our products in a BAU environment by:


  • Understanding regulatory requirements and changes in regulation related to our products to ensure their compliance.
  • Ensuring our products continue to be communicated accurately, provide value for money, and meet customer needs.
  • Identifying risks, managing them with key stakeholders, and providing recommendations for risk mitigation.
  • Ensuring our products meet and exceed legal, regulatory and industry requirements.


You will have proven experience in product development and/or product owner type roles within financial services with a proactive approach to identifying new product/proposition opportunities and a desire to drive them forward to meet our customer and business needs. You will have excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to engage and influence at all levels within the business.
