In order to strengthen our R&D Department we are looking to hire an Engine Emissions Development Engineer based in Maranello (Italy). You will work in the Powertrain Testing Development Group reporting to the Engine Emissions Development Team Leader. You will develop the engine calibration ensuring compliance with emissions regulations in all target markets from homologation through to in-service testing. The majority of the activity takes place in dedicated vehicle test benches; you will support activity in other facilities and in vehicle when required. In this position, you will be responsible for: Interact with the Engine Technical Office and Predevelopment Group to clarify exhaust aftertreatment expectations and give regular feedback on experimental performance Discuss regularly with the Certification and Regulatory Affairs office to ensure alignment of homologation procedures and targets Monitor emissions status and report anomalies on time over the entire project duration through weekly updates, regular reports and key gateways documentation Collaborate closely with base engine development engineers to ensure base calibration is fit for purpose for emissions, particularly with regard to catalyst heating Prepare calibrations for emissions testing as per procedures, following of tests and analysis of data leading to a new calibration release and report of activity Work together with application engineers, especially OBD and Drivability to ensure the overall calibration is fit for purpose and meets project targets Collaborate with Facilities engineers and operational staff to ensure efficient and accurate test preparation and execution Propose improvements to hardware, software and procedures Follow homologation testing to guarantee engineering targets are met In order to succeed in this challenging role, you will ideally have achieved excellent academic results with a Master-degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent and at least 3 years’ dedicated experience in emissions, start, catalyst heating calibration, ideally of high performance automotive GDI engines. In Ferrari you must exhibit the capability to work in a highly-dynamic and fast-changing environment; strong communication skills and accountability are important skillsets to manage activities and responsibilities of the role. It is important to be proactive proposing new solutions to optimize all the maintenance processes and activities. Detailed knowledge of modern SI engine aftertreatment systems, in particular Three-Way Catalysts and Gasoline Particulate Filters, and knowledge and understanding of typical instrumentation for emissions testing and calibration software and result analysis software are mandatory to manage the role. Fluent English is required for the position and Italian language skills are an advantage.
