The Job: Monitor and treat the facility industrial wastewater and ensure discharged water is within allowable levels. Perform and document environmental tasks in the Site PM System to maintain plant Waste Treatment Equipment. Perform environmental and safety surveys and inspections, prepare written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventive measures where indicated and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented. Supervise hourly Environmental Technicians to ensure Waste Treatment Equipment performs as designed. Build effective working relationships to build awareness of Environmental Health and Safety values, strategies, & performance. Work closely with SBD environmental consultants to ensure compliance with environmental standards. Keep the City Water and Waste Treatment Dept. informed of all relevant activities and scheduled sampling. Record and track water meter totals to help control water usage consumed by the facility. Oversee the hazardous waste program; collect, record, maintain, and dispose of waste records per EPA regulations. Achieve proper DOT and RCRA training, understand and follow instructions for shipping of any hazardous materials. Manage Safety Data Sheet inventory for all products being used onsite for hazard communication, and to assist in chemical labeling, waste management, spill response, and annual reporting under EPCRA. Understand MTD SPCC (spill) and SWPPP (storm water) plans; perform regular site walks to ensure compliance. Manage tracking and assist in completing air, waste, EPCRA (Tier 2 and TRI) reporting. Coordinate activities with Corporate EHS to ensure all reports are completed accurately and on time to state and federal regulatory agencies. Submit TRI report annually to SBD environmental consultants regarding the release of hazardous or toxic chemicals. Perform or provide regular training to SBD employees pertaining to SPCC, SWPPP, and RCRA. Track orders and Purchase Orders as needed to vendors involved in environmental activities. Conduct plantwide bacterial testing when required, record levels and send report to the associated dept. to remedy high bacteria levels. Act as the liaison between SBD and government entities to answer all requests for information. Occasional travel as required. Abide by all SBD safety policies and follow all applicable ISO standards & procedures. Perform other departmental tasks as assigned by the Manager or designee. You also have: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in Occupational Health and Safety or other applicable discipline; or three to five years minimum related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prefer experience in OSHA, EPA and DOT regulatory requirements. Must be available and willing to work such weekends and holidays as the employer determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs. Understanding of how to read SDS forms and provide guidance to other departments. Understanding of proper record maintenance and retention.
