Temporary Qualified Teacher for Special Schools in Wakefield Area
Temporary Supply Teacher (Special Educational Needs & Disabilities)
Wakefield and surrounding areas
One term up to one academic year
Full-time and part-time positions available
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver tailored lessons that meet the diverse needs of pupils with SEND, ranging from moderate to severe learning difficulties, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), and Physical Disabilities.
- Adapt teaching styles to accommodate varying levels of ability and learning styles, ensuring students remain engaged and supported.
- Implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including teaching assistants, therapists, and SEN coordinators.
- Use behavior management strategies to create a safe, nurturing, and structured learning environment.
- Foster emotional, social, and academic growth by providing positive reinforcement and celebrating small achievements.
- Teach core subjects, including literacy, numeracy, and life skills, alongside a differentiated version of the National Curriculum to support personal development and independence.
- Participate in team meetings and liaise with parents and carers to ensure holistic support for students.
Job Spec & Description:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
Proven experience working in Special School settings or with children with SEND, with a strong understanding of the unique needs and challenges in this environment.
Compassionate, patient, and adaptable.
Strong understanding of various SEND conditions, including autism, ADHD, physical impairments, and severe learning difficulties.
Ability to differentiate and adapt the curriculum to suit individual learning needs.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with staff, parents, and external agencies.
Strong behavior management skills and a positive, nurturing approach to teaching.
In this role, you will be teaching a tailored curriculum that supports the holistic development of students with SEND. This includes:
Differentiated teaching of English, Maths, and Science to match students' abilities.
Teaching practical skills to help students become more independent in daily life.
Supporting students to improve social interactions and communication abilities.
Incorporating physical education and therapeutic activities suited to individual needs.
Engaging students in activities such as music, art, and vocational training to foster personal growth.
