Posting Details Posting Number: 20241181F Position Title: Visiting Assistant Professor/Director of the Clemency Clinic Position Type: Faculty Location: Villanova, PA Recruitment Type: Internal/External Applicants Work Schedule: Temporary Department: 241-Law School Instruction Position Summary: Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law seeks an outstanding lawyer-educator to direct and teach the Clemency Clinic as a Visiting Assistant Professor during the Spring 2025 semester. The Clinic represents low-income clients in clemency matters, with a focus on federal sentence reduction petitions under the First Step Act. Duties and Responsibilities Teach clinic classes focused on lawyering skills, professional development, and ethical practice, employing clinical teaching methods. Supervise all aspects of student practice and serve as the attorney of record in Clinic cases. Oversee all aspects of administration of the Clemency Clinic, including but not limited to conducting outreach to clients, selecting cases, reporting to funding sources, and maintaining files. Minimum Qualifications A Juris Doctor degree is required. Pennsylvania bar membership (or an ability to waive into the Pennsylvania bar) is required. Five years of relevant legal practice experience, including experience litigating federal criminal matters on behalf of low-income clients, is required. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Excellent clinical teaching ability, including an ability to work both collaboratively and independently and a demonstrated interest in and aptitude for student supervision and teaching, is required. Expertise in relevant substantive areas of law is required. Preferred Qualifications An understanding of, and commitment to, clinical teaching methodology is preferred. Prior clinical teaching experience is preferred.
