Legal Counsel - Construction firm (London or Leeds)

In-House Legal Counsel

Based in either London or Leeds

Hybrid working (1 day per week in the office)

£70K-£80K + bonus + £5K car allowance

The role:

• Providing commercially focused legal advice on a broad range of projects ensuring compliance with applicable law.
• Reviewing, negotiating and/or drafting agreements and conducting contract negotiations with project counterparties primarily for construction, refurbishment and related services.
• Supporting on commercial and contractual matters for tenders, projects, variations and on-going contractual and operational matters.
• Assisting on the governance of transactions at local and group level.
• Working closely with colleagues throughout the group and with customers.
• Managing external legal resource as required.
• Assisting in developing and delivering training on legal matters for colleagues across the business.

Requirements:

• Qualified Solicitor or Barrister
• Good knowledge of relevant areas of law including standard-form construction contracts, outsourcing, commercial and UK public procurement.
• Knowledge of or an experience of the UK construction industry is required
• Strong drafting, negotiating and analytical skills. Ability to draft and negotiate a variety of documentation including development, construction, consultants and services agreements.
