Job Description

Could you use your fundraising skills to help drive forward world class cancer research, right here in Wales for Welsh people?

In this brand-new Fundraising Manager role, you'll build relationships with businesses and communities to encourage people to fundraise with a meaningful goal of saving and extending people's lives from the heart-breaking impact of cancer.

Salary: £40k FTE, £32k for 4 days
Contract: Permanent, ideally 4 days per week but will consider full-time
Location: Homebased, working across the North Wales patch with contract based from retail stores in either Bangor, Llandudno or Wrexham
Benefits: 20 days holiday (+ bank), generous pension contribution (double employee contribution up to 13%)

About the charity

Every 30 minutes, someone in Wales is diagnosed with cancer. It is predicted that one in two of us will have cancer in our lifetime and by 2030, over 230,000 people in Wales will be living with it.

As cancer outcomes in Wales tend to be poorer than other UK devolved nations and European countries with similar healthcare systems, it is critical that more research is done and quickly. The good news is that incredible work is being done in Wales to ensure earlier diagnosis and more effective treatment.

Cancer Research Wales has been driving forward world class cancer research for almost 60 years, funding more than £30m in research, awareness, and partnerships. But we need and can do so much more.

About the role

You'll be the face of the charity in North Wales, building relationships with community supporters and businesses through corporate partnerships. As this is a new role in the team, we're realistic about what's possible and you'll be supported to build a sustainable pipeline of long-term support across the region.

It's a varied role with huge amounts of potential, working closely alongside fundraising, research and retail colleagues. Opportunities will be available with a wide range of individuals and organisations, including community fundraising volunteers and committees, Welsh business, schools, universities, clubs and associations. With a growing community of donors and supporters taking part in events across Wales, you'll be given the freedom to grow the pipeline in your own way, using your own initiative and innovative ideas.

About you

We'd ideally love to see you bringing some previous fundraising experience and ideas with you, to help get things off the ground. We would be open to conversations with candidates from other sectors, who believe they have what it takes to make the transition and can demonstrate at least an understanding of fundraising principles and practice.

Here's what we'd love to see shining brightly on your CV:

  • You work successfully to targets and have a proven income generation track-record.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills that allow you to inspire and influence different audiences.
  • Evidence of relationship and rapport building skills.
  • Confidence in pitching and presenting to a diverse range of people.
  • Self-motivated and solutions focused, with a positive mindset.
  • You're a team player who brings out the best in others.

The ability to speak Welsh is highly desirable, but not essential. If you don't speak Welsh and would be open to learning, the charity would be very happy to support you.

This is a truly unique opportunity, working as part of a growing team. Tons of potential and chance to be involved at an exciting time, implementing a new strategy, and working for a supportive Head of Fundraising.

If reading about this opportunity has captured your imagination, please get in touch with a copy of your profile or CV to Ellen Drummond at Charity People.

Deadline: 9am on Friday 29th November
Interview dates TBC

We'd encourage you to get in touch asap if you are interested. We're conscious of the festive break coming up and would love to start conversations as early as possible. We promise we won't close early and you won't miss out if you apply right up to the deadline though.
