High school diploma or equivalent, strong organizational skills, strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, ability to solve problems, computer skills, and customer service skills are required. Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences and/or prior laboratory experience preferred. 1. R esponsible for setting up clinical samples for microbiological testing and review - Monitor equipment for proper operation and complete appropriate documentation. Establish and improve on current Lab Operations processes and procedures. 2. R eceives Specimen drop-off from patients and clinical departments as needed. Prepare samples for Laboratory Analysis e.g labeling, centrifuging including preparing samples for Reference Lab testing. Retrieves patient information from LIS, Locates patient lab orders, entry of patient registration and lab orders as needed. 3. A ssist with testing of clinical samples. 4. A ssist with quality control program. 5. I nventory control - assist in supporting all microbiology areas with small equipment maintenance, organism inventory, frozen stock, inventory stocking, and receiving of materials. 6. R eviews/monitors outstanding specimen reports for chemistry department. Delivers STAT specimens immediately to laboratory sections after receipt of specimen. Delivers routine specimens to appropriate laboratory within 10 minutes of receipt. Prepare samples for reference Lab testing. Works on problem resolution/tracking of pending tests. 7. R ecords daily temperatures of refrigerators and freezers in chemistry area. Perform and record all water chemistry testing and complete required area documentation. 8. E stablishes and maintains good rapport and cooperative working attitude with co-workers and other hospital staff, as well as patients and visitors. 9. P articipates and/or assists in laboratory education and training. May serve as a trainer for new hires. Attends continuing education programs. 10. M aintains neat and accurate records and a clean and orderly work area. Recognizes and reports discrepant results or conditions to the supervisor. 11. P erforms all duties and responsibilities in compliance with standard operating procedures. 12. A ssists other staff with pertinent information as required. e.g. answering telephones PROBLEM SOLVING: 0. F ollows all established departmental and laboratory policies, procedures, and protocols when performing all tasks. 1. A ttention to detail and accuracy accompanied by flexibility to adapt to varying workloads must be applied each day. 2. E ach problem is to be resolved in a professional and timely manner. 3. A ny problem that cannot be resolved must be escalated to the next level (e.g. lead, technical specialist) for assistance. ACCOUNTABILITY: 0. P erforms all duties in a consistently professional manner. 1. D emonstrates excellent customer service skills, especially when resolving problems and/or issues. 2. E fficiently and effectively handles the workload and adapts pace to accommodate increases or decreases in volume. 3. M aintains specimen identification and integrity throughout all processes. 4. R eports any and all problems with specimen submission by using the Safety Reporting System. 5. A ttends departmental, laboratory, and hospital meetings. 6. C ompletes all training, both in-person and on-line, in a timely manner. 7. A rrives to work on time for scheduled shifts and completes time clock punches accurately.
