Role Summary:
Reporting to the Sales Manager, the Technical Specialist is a key member of the Forberg Smith outside sales team. In the Outside Sales Technical Specialist position, the individual will be responsible for supporting and growing current customers, strategizing and implementing revenue generating sales activities, and developing an ownership mindset for your assigned territory. Sales functions include territory management, customer interaction, prospecting for new customers, contract/pricing negotiation, product presentations, inventory management, uncovering needs, and closing sales. The Outside Sales Technical Specialist will be placed in an established account base and will be required to achieve sales and margin objectives.

Exciting work you will do:
The essential duties and responsibilities of the Technical Specialist will consist of, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Manage, grow, strategize, and support the assigned territory
  • Work alongside an established team covering multiple states in the Midwest market
  • Generate profitable orders and meet or exceed annual sales targets
  • Actively seek out new clients to expand the assigned territory
  • Maintain strong and trusted relationships with manufacturers and customers
  • Regularly analyze your field activities, determine the improvements required, act on them, ultimately bringing a high level of productivity and efficiency
  • Monitor and review all quotations, professionally follow-up, and maximize sales
  • Develop a full understanding of your client base, territory, competition, and market
  • Ability to communicate clearly and efficiently, negotiate effectively, manage sales planning skills
  • Identify all sales opportunities and work earnestly to convert them to orders
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What you'll need:
  • Work Experience: Minimum 1-year experience in outside sales
  • Education: Bachelor's degree, technical degree, or equivalent combination of skills and experience
  • Analytics/Computer Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office products (e.g. Word, Excel, etc.) and the ability to learn new software; business acumen, including problem solving skills, critical thinking, and analytical abilities
  • Organization Skills: Highly organized and detail-oriented; ability to multi-task and shift priorities as needed; ability to work in fast-paced, continuously evolving environment
  • Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal communications, analytical and problem solving, organizational and written/verbal communication skills; strong influencing skills

Qualifications we prefer but don't require:
  • Work Experience: 2 years sales experience. Experience with process control instruments (level, flow, pressure, temperature, system components, valves, analysis, and filtration) and core markets: power generation, chemical, pharmaceutical, oil & gas, biotech, food & beverage, semiconductor, water treatment, renewable fuels, automotive, aerospace, steel, general manufacturing, R&D, OEM, EPC, and industrial contractors.
