Job Description

To be eligible for this role, you must have lived in the UK for the past 5 years and have a legal right to work and must be able to pass full security vetting and DBS checks.


Aramark UK is looking to recruit a Kitchen Manager to join our team working at HMP Millsike, Moor Lane, York, YO41 1PS.


This is a full-time, permanent position and will be based at the new Category C prison in York. This will be a 40-hour week, 5 over 7.


The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with excellent interpersonal skills, high attention to detail (particularly in safety) and a passion for coaching a team. This role is primarily focused on people management, safety and operational standards rather than culinary expertise.

A day in the life of a Kitchen Manager:

  • Take full ownership of kitchen operations, including food management, safety systems, and compliance with food safety and health & safety regulations
  • Lead and inspire the kitchen leadership team to meet the highest operational and safety standards
  • Provide the team with the necessary tools and equipment to perform their duties effectively
  • Coach, motivate and develop kitchen staff
  • Conduct regular audits to maintain and continually improve food safety, cleanliness and operational standards
  • Ensure timely payroll completion in collaboration with the scheduling team


You’ll be set up for success if you have:

  • Experience as a Head Chef or Kitchen Manager in a high-volume environment
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent organisational skills and high attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels
  • Proficient in IT and numeracy, with experience managing rotas, payroll and operational audits
  • Commitment to maintaining and improving exacting standards of food safety and cleanliness
