The Corporate Information Services Department is seeking a dynamic and talented Senior Computer Operator.

The Senior Computer Operator demonstrates a more in depth understanding of the Data Center. Is able to troubleshoot system issues with System Engineer guidance. Is able to monitor and perform low level tasks within UHS Data Protection and Recovery applications. Performs duties necessary to monitor and ensure correct operation of all Servers and Hardware within the UHS Corporate Data Center. During non-business hours, monitors all OpenLink interfaces to ensure there is proper communication at all times and performs first level support. Trains new Computer Operators and or other less experienced operators.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Monitors the operation of all servers, hosts systems and backup components to ensure proper functioning and availability to end-users.
  • Utilizes various monitoring tools provided to review system console messages, event logs, e-mail alerts and audible alarms from the data center environment.
  • Responds to error conditions on monitored systems and servers by entering message responses or operating system commands from the keyboard or performing other actions as appropriate, such as mounting storage media, per established procedures.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of Data Protection and Recovery in order to provide first-level support following established procedures.
  • Maintains various Operational logs as required by the manager.
  • Contacts vendors and assists service personnel to affect repair on damaged or malfunctioning computing or network equipment, or data center environment and mechanical systems. Does not perform work, which requires specialized skills, training or certifications, such as but not limited to electrical work, heating or air conditioning. Does not require performing work requiring unassisted lifting, carrying or support of large or heavy (over 30 pound) objects while assisting in the service of any such systems.
  • Trains new Computer Operators or other less experienced ones.
  • Lifts pushes or carries boxes or containers containing data media, general office supplies, small parts and tools, or network equipment (up to 50 pounds) may be required.
  • Monitors and performs first level support during non-business hours supporting all Cerner OpenLink Interfaces. Opens appropriate help desk tickets and escalates issues to on-call personnel as needed.
  • Performs walk-throughs of the Data Center to ensure that all devices and systems are in proper working order, escalates any issues found to appropriate personnel.
  • Monitors the server status utilizing software provided for this purpose, also monitors the e-mail alerts that come in for server issues and submits a help desk ticket to escalate them.
  • Understands and performs all other duties according to UHS Service Excellence Principles, policies, procedures, and ethical behavior guidelines.
Qualifications

Position Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3-5 years of related experience required.
  • Working knowledge of the operation of multiple computing systems such as VMware and Microsoft Windows-based PCs and servers.
  • Working knowledge of wide area and local area network sufficient to recognize and respond to network related trouble.
  • Familiar with Data Storage, Protection, and Recovery.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook sufficient to create or edit basic documents or open and navigate through existing documents for reference to instructions.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills to speak and correspond with customers and colleagues.
  • Strong customer service skills with ability to remain professional and courteous in stressful situations.
  • Duties are performed during an assigned 8-hour shift and may vary depending upon the shift and system work schedule. Shifts are defined as follows:
    • First shift - weekdays: Monday through Friday 7:00am to 4:00pm ET (40 hours/week)
    • Second shift - weekdays: Monday through Friday 3:00pm to 11:00pm ET (40 hours/week)
    • Third shift: Sunday through Thursday 11:00pm to 7:00am ET (40 hours/week), or Tuesday to Saturday 11:00pm to 7:00am ET (40 hours/week).
    • First shift weekends: Saturday and Sunday 7:00am to 3:00pm ET (16 hours/week)
    • Second shift weekends: Saturday and Sunday 3:00pm to 11:00pm ET (16 hours/week)
  • May be required to work scheduled company paid holidays or during inclement weather.
  • May be required to work other shifts in order to provide coverage for other Operators, as needed.
  • May be required to work extra hours as needed to support IS Operations or attend training.

Shift: Saturday and Sunday 7:00am to 4:00pm ET
