About Us

For over 90 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware has impacted thousands of lives across Delaware. We are the largest licensed provider of childcare in Delaware and the only statewide Boys & Girls Club in the nation.

Each and everyday girls and boys are left to find their own recreation and companionship. An increasing number of kids are at home with no adult care or supervision. Young people need to they have a place in their community where they can go. Clubs provide a safe haven for youth, allow them to meet with friends and be a part of positive peer groups. Club programs teach life skills, conflict resolution and focus on the development of character. Clubs also provide members with positive role models and a nurturing environment that help improve decision-making skills.

Position Summary

The Executive Director, Grants Development has responsibility for the research & development of Government and Non- Government grants within the priority areas of the organization's strategic plan. They will oversee major funding and reporting requirements and build productive relationships with funders. The Executive Director will collaborate with core operations leadership team members to ensure alignment of strategy across Clubs throughout the state. The position will initiate strategic partnerships with external organizations and support the acquisition and management of related grants and other funding.

Essential Functions:
  • Research, identify and recognize external opportunities that present viable funding opportunities and match the organization wide goals and strategic plan.
  • Support, enhance and supervise the efforts of the grants team.
  • Provide leadership in the identification and solicitation of grants including government, corporate and foundation grants.
  • Lead the planning and writing of grants and coordinate closely with operations and finance teams on the following: program design, budget development and evaluation of grant funded projects.
  • Provide technical support to Club and Administrative staff in grant implementation and management, including instructions of internal procedures and funding agency compliance, grant documentation.
  • Initiate strategic partnerships with external organizations and support the acquisition and management of grant and other funding.
  • Develop, design and implement processes and procedures related to grant management and proposal development.
  • Provide guidance for internal and external program audits and reviews.
  • Use Raiser's Edge and other data base systems to manage and monitor grants; has responsibility to manage the yearlong grants calendar and anticipate and plan for renewal submissions.
  • Serve as the lead liaison with the Finance team, ensuring a smooth flow of work between the departments.
  • Cultivate extensive relationships across various funding sectors and segments of our community
  • Cultivate, manage, and maintain relationships with key organizational funders and stakeholders through targeted and strategic outreach and stewardship.
  • Analyze grant funding trends to identify growing programs, opportunities for increased funding, and areas in need of greater development
  • Conduct internal and external research to identify funding opportunities with foundations, governmental agencies, corporate and community-based funding organization.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Five years of recent grant development and monitoring experience, preferably in a nonprofit or youth serving agency OR
  • Five years of recent experience in marketing, community relations and/or fundraising and development, preferably in a nonprofit or youth serving agency OR
  • Any combination experience in the areas of grant development, grant monitoring, marketing, community relations, fundraising or development equivalent to five years.
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience in a youth serving organization
  • Experience in nonprofit organizations
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university
Knowledge of:
  • Principles of grant writing, grant management and partnership development
  • Practices of grant administration, including funding sources, administrative requirements, cost principles and state and federal regulations
  • Principles and practices of personnel supervision, training and performance management
  • Applicable uses of Microsoft Office 365 and data base software packages or CRM systems, preferably Blackbaud
  • Pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations relating to grant writing, administration and management.
  • Acceptable and compliant processes relative to state and government grants.
Ability to:
  • Gather and analyze data and situations, and make appropriate decisions
  • Prepare and present comprehensive concise, clear oral and written reports and presentations
  • Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with funding agencies, auditors and the community
  • Provide leadership based on ethics and principles as they relate to resource development and grant functions and operations.
Environmental and Working Conditions: Environmental and working conditions vary from indoors to outdoors; various meeting locations in and out of the Club; occasional statewide travel (e.g. training). Employees are subject to transfer from one department to another and from one Club/School Site to another as the needs of the organization change.

Physical and Mental Requirements:
  • Maintain a high energy level.
  • Frequently lift, carry or otherwise move and position objects weighing up to 25 pounds when preparing rooms for activities.
  • Typically bend, stoop, walk and sometimes run while interacting with children in various activities throughout the day.
  • Ability to perform duties effectively under stressful conditions; ability to make decisions quickly and accurately with tact and impartiality
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Work Hours: Monday -Friday, 37.5 hours/ week; flexibility to work hybrid schedule after completion of 6 months.

Pay Range: $75,000 - $85,000 per year
