SUMMARY
As an Associate Underwriter, you will support territorial teams in all aspects of underwriting, including policy and inspection analysis, handle customer service support phone calls, and all other aspects of agency relationship management. You will also have growth opportunity to underwrite small new and renewal marine accounts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions in written or diagram form. Reasoning; dealing with problems involving a few variables in standard situations.

SUMMARY

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Setup and prepare new and renewal underwriting files.
- Issue bind confirmations for brokerage accounts.
- Issue new and renewal brokerage policies.
- Create and follow-up on outstanding items in a timely fashion via our diary system.
- Assist the underwriters by following up to ensure prompt receipt of requested information.
- Assist in processing transactions (endorsements, new business, renewals, cancellation, and reinstatements) in the company processing system.
- Assist in resolving any processing problems by computing the correct additional or return premiums for processing as required. Follow-up with general agents to obtain required information, as necessary.
- Interact both verbally and in writing with our general agency customers. Exhibit strong interpersonal skills, with a professional demeanor.
- Underwrite general agent issued policies, endorsements, applications and/or other pertinent underwriting documents to ensure compliance with our underwriting guidelines.
- Underwrite expiring general agent issued accounts with losses.
- Analyze general agent issued policy inspections and surveys, determining risk eligibility and desirability; ultimately recommending corrective actions as deemed necessary due to inspection results.
- Analyze brokerage issued policy inspections and surveys; aide in recommending corrective actions due to inspection results.
- Assist in analyzing general agency profitability, by means of internal underwriting audits, aiding in recommending corrective actions.
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Minimum 3-year insurance experience preferred.
- Must have a working knowledge of general liability, property, and inland marine coverages, and be familiar with casualty, property, and inland marine underwriting; be familiar with endorsements, including pro-rata and short-rate computations.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as underwriting manuals, emails, faxes, and procedural manuals.
- Ability to write routine correspondence in the English language using correct grammar and spelling; to compute basic math.
- Must have a working knowledge of general liability and property underwriting, and be familiar with endorsements, including pro-rata and short-rate computations.
- Working knowledge of most Microsoft programs such as Word and Excel.
- Excellent organization and communication skills, oral and written are required.
