Overview

This is a hybrid role, with the expectation that time working will regularly take place inside and outside of a company office.

First Citizens Bank offers an exciting summer internship program that provides development opportunities and hands on work experience while creating a talent pipeline for the Bank. Our interns will apply classroom knowledge in a corporate environment while making a positive impact across the organization and the communities we serve. The Control Room is a diverse team of seasoned professionals located in NY and Texas and work with employees across the United States. Outside of work, the team members are heavily involved with their communities and include a member who is an active runner and has participated marathons including Boston and NYC Another member was an English major and another is a doted French Bulldog owner, and they all love to explore new dining venues in NYC. There are also team building and networking events with other employees of First Citizens Bank, highlighting the community and inclusion aspect which is a team highly values.

This is a compliance/risk function team that manages and advises on various conflicts of interest across the enterprise by maintaining policies and procedures within the bank to prevent and detect the misuse of MNPI/Insider Information. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Handling the flow of Material Non-Public Information (MNPI) and inside information.
  • Establishing framework of controls and information barriers to assist in preventing the unauthorized disclosure of MNPI and/or the misuse of (or perceived misuse) that information.

  • Identifying and managing potential conflicts.

  • Monitoring, maintaining, and surveilling associate personal trading activities to ensure that personal investment activities are conducted in compliance with applicable laws, regulations and policies.
  • Maintaining and managing the Watch and Restricted Lists.
  • Managing Information Barrier Crossings.
  • Maintaining supervision of enterprise restrictions and transaction related information

An ideal candidate for this internship will be someone who seeks to learn and be involved in Compliance aspects of a bank. The individual must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office as they will be included on the review and edit of policies and procedures. The individual should be confident when engaging with employees for the purpose of networking, sharing information and requesting information from others.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Be part of a dynamic team with interesting projects.

  • Accountabilities can and may include areas such as research, analytics, projects, strategy, process review and improvement, as well as technology enhancements and support.

  • Attend professional development sessions, informational sessions, networking and community service events.

  • Have a dedicated manager and program manager to help you navigate the bank and the internship program.

  • Be assigned a project, designed to improve a specific process or solve a problem that you will present at the close of the internship.

  • Prepare a wrap-up presentation to be shared with the division leader and other key stakeholders in the company to outline your accomplishments and experience during the internship

Internship dates: 5/28/2025 - 8/01/2025

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED and 1 year of experience

  • Currently enrolled at an accredited collegiate institution (during the time of the summer program)

  • Ability to work 40 hours per week during the duration of the program

Preferred qualifications:

  • 3.0 minimum GPA

  • Proficiency using MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Strong desire to learn and grow

  • Possess a positive attitude, naturally curious and enjoys collaborating with others

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Critical thinking skills

  • Ability to multitask

  • Ability to adapt and adjust priorities based on business needs

  • Ability to take direction and absorb information quickly

The base pay for this position is generally between $22.44 and $34.42. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
