Job Duties
We are looking for professionals with fiscal experience to drive the business operations of the Virginia Department of Transportation.
The Richmond District, Petersburg Residency is seeking a detail oriented Fiscal Technician position to work out of the McKenney Area Headquarters. In addition, on an as needed basis, this position will serve as backup to the Petersburg Residency front desk. As a Fiscal Technician, you will maintain/process time and attendance, accounts payable/receivable, procurement/SPCC (Small Purchasing Credit Card) direct charge, travel, inventory, and perform other fiscal transactions. You will interpret basic policies/procedures and implement minor procedural and transactional changes. The position will also perform monthly safety audits, handle fuel reports, work order accomplishment reports, contact customers regarding their work orders, and perform other administrative duties to assist the area headquarters leadership. The selected candidate must be available to report for weather related situations and emergency operations.

Minimum Qualifications
• Experience interpreting and applying basic policy, procedures and implementing procedural and transactional changes.
• Experience performing data entry into automated financial systems.
• Experience with file management to include purging and disposing of files in accordance with records retention guidelines and schedules.
• Experience preparing financial reports and running queries.
• Knowledge of basic accounting and business principles sufficient to monitor and analyze data.
• Ability to work independently and as a team member.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with internal and external customers.
• Skill in performing basic math calculations.
• Skill in the use of computers and software applications to include MS Office, automated financial and inventory systems.
• Valid driver’s license.
Additional Considerations
• Experience applying knowledge of GAAP, government accounting, internal controls, inventory and compliance.
• Exceptional customer service skills or ability to effectively and professionally communicate with difficult customers.
• Experience procuring goods and services using a Small Purchasing Credit Card (SPCC).
• Experience using Cardinal or a similar automated financial management system desired.
• Knowledge and experience processing accounts payable and receivable.
• Knowledge and experience performing account reconciliations and tracking time/attendance.
• A combination of training, experience, or education in Bookkeeping, Accounting or related field desired.
