Responsibilities

GCN/MDA NOC technicians perform monitoring and troubleshooting of the long-haul connections that make up the Ground-based Midcourse Defense Communications Network (GCN) to provide network services in support of the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS). The supported network is essential to the integrated, layered, ballistic missile defense system (BMDS) used to defend the United States, its deployed forces, allies, and friends against all ranges of enemy ballistic missiles in all phases of flight.

These connections, using technologies such as Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) and Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM), can include transport devices such as Multi-Service Provisioning Platform (MSPP), Promina, Optical Digital Cross-Connect (ODXC), Ciena CoreStream and 6500, ADTRAN, and SafeNet encryptors.

Providing services over these long-haul connections also require the monitoring and troubleshooting of network devices such as Juniper Routers. Network monitoring includes the use of programs such as Cisco Prime Optical, Cisco Transport Controller, IBM Netcool, and Sycamore SilvX.
