Job Description
Wise Employment are currently recruiting for an assistant farm manager.
Full time, 40-hour week including some weekend and evening work. Compressed hours and flexitime available where possible within the role. Seasonal variation in work pattern. Paid breaks and 6.6 weeks’ holiday per year.
This is a fixed term 2year contract. There may be the potential for this position to become permanent in the future. Requirement to travel between local locations may be required but not always.
We are a small dedicated team looking for someone with farming experience that can bring new knowledge and skills to the team and progress our high welfare, organic & regenerative beef system.
As assistant farm manager you will be required to have the following:
Essential skills:
Full driving licence
Tractor, ATV & telehandler driving experience/certificates with a broad knowledge of field work including sowing & harvest in grass based systems.
Broad basic knowledge of tractor and machinery maintenance and repair.
Farm animal husbandry knowledge & experience specifically beef, sheep & poultry
Animal health planning and management
Grazing platform planning and management
General estate maintenance skills (fencing, water etc)
Good communication skills within a team environment, as well as being motivated to work alone
Knowledge of relevant animal welfare & health and safety legislation and best practice
Good literacy and IT skills
Desirable skills:
Experience of farm record keeping
Carpentry and mechanic experience
Competent using DIY tools
Experience leading a team and supervising contractors
Experience in leading farm walks & hosting educational and guest experiences
Experience in organic farming and vegetable gardening
Relevant qualifications to this role (RHS, City & Guilds, NPTC, LANTRA etc)
The ideal candidate will have a hands-on, can-do attitude and plenty of drive and enthusiasm. This job can be physically demanding and hard work but it's also very satisfying work in a beautiful environment on a progressive farm. Successful applicants will be subject to DBS checks.
To achieve the higher rate salary you will be able to demonstrate the ability to achieve all of the above and provide previous experience through references to reflect what is required
