A leading public service employer with a fantastic reputation across North Wales. My client provides vital services and is looking for an experienced Data Protection Officer to join them on a permanent basis.
Your new role
As a DPO for the organisation, you will be in a core role to set the standard of excellence across Information Governance and provide guidance for data protection and compliance! This core role will see you shape the approach to ethical data use, by managing data protection access requests as well as freedom of information requests. You will be working to develop and enhance policies and be the lead contact for the data protection legislation supervisory authority, Information Commissioners Office and any individuals whose data is processed. You will be risk orientated, and be accountable for managing risk and knowing when to escalate to the Senior Information Risk Owner. You will have indirect responsibility and the support of a governance administrator! You will be ensuring all SARs are responded to within all statutory timescales. You will be instrumental in maintaining data retention policies and be comfortable providing expert advice to senior stakeholders. Additionally, you will deliver training to staff as necessary for changes to policies or procedures relating to data protection or information governance.
What you'll need to succeed
Your experience working within information governance, corporate governance or in data protection will be essential for this post. A sound understanding of public sector data protection would be a distinct advantage, however is not essential. You will be well versed in all things GDPR, Data Protection Laws, FOI's and SAR's and be comfortable taking ownership of these areas. Your experience of developing and maintaining policies as necessary to reflect legislative changes will enable you to hit the ground running in this post! With prior experience in conducting investigations into data breaches inclusive of implications, will enable you to suggest best practice and lead from the front. A confident communicator, you will be used to working with external organisations such as the Information Commissioners Office. Due to the nature of the role and organisation, you will be required to pass a basic DBS check.

You will have full-time hours, Monday–Friday, and be able to work from offices closest to you across Denbigh and Conwy.
